It is a great deal at twice the price. The reel is okay. It's an entry level spinning reel and came strung with 20 or 25 lb. test mono. I used it to pier fish and landed a 28 lb. shark among other fish. I am a native Floridian and have fished my entire life. I have relocated to Georgia and had to change my fishing style due to lack of boat access. This pole was exactly what I was looking for. It is stiff enough to rough the fish away from the pilings and long enough to afford long casting. I really wish it was available in a conventional Bait Casting configuration, but you can't go wrong with this one. With heavy use the reel should last me about a year with propper maintenance which is cool considering that I expected to chuck it immediately and replace it with one of my top top quality reels. That should give you an idea of how impressed that I actually am. For the occasional or vacation fisherman This is the perfect combo for surf or pier fishing.**Update**I caught a 4ft. Blacktip off of Tybee Island Pier. I really had a hard time with it. The problem was the rod weight and diameter along with the action, (stiffnes). The configuration of this rod makes it really hard to contol. Mostly plastic, which is great because that means less things to get rusty from the salty ocean. The clip to hold the reverse switch kinda just plopped out after I added like a half a pound of petroleum, spent about an hour fishing(ha) it out of the deep confines of gears and jelly. Was able to put back together once I got the clip back with tweezers. I don't think the manufacturer wanted customers to tinker with the insides. But once j greased her up and rigged it up I slapped it on this fatty pile. It made me feel like uncle Riko because I'm pretty sure my cast went at least 12 nautical miles. Super rad for my first surf setup. ### ⭐⭐⭐ It has many break-even points *by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2020* It’s a nice inexpensive surf rod and reel combo, but that won’t necessarily make it tons of fun for the person who is new to surf fishing. Spend 3-4 times more $$$ for a better setup, and you’ll be happier in the long-term. Also, the combo is rather durable with minimal maintenance. I occasionally lubricate the reel, but sometimes forego rinsing off the dried salt and sand for a few days; however, it still functions flawlessly and looks almost new. The rod is tough as nails, not a mar on it after many uses, but it is quite stiff, which negates that fun factor. Sometimes, this combo will be on a “best of” list for surf rods - don’t believe all of what you read in reviews of this combo. Reviewers tend to embellish its strengths, then link to Amazon. Perhaps, the best-of lists bloggers never spent time using it in the surf. I would only recommend this setup for those who will go surf fishing once in a while.
