## Description

Oh no! It looks like your granddad was right--things really were better in the old days. At least they were if you liked 2-D platform games, and Yoshi’s Island is indisputably one of the best ever made. Yoshi’s Island goes back in time to recount the touching story of the various Yoshis' attempts to unite Baby Mario with his parents. You don’t actually control the Italian plumber-to-be but instead his dinosaur pal, who has the curious ability to eat his enemies and then immediately turn them into eggs, which he can then fling at more enemies. Since Yoshi isn’t particularly fast and can float in midair for a few seconds after making a jump, the whole dynamics of the normal Mario gameplay have changed, but the same incredible attention to detail and endless imagination that mark all of Nintendo’s best efforts are still here in full effect. In fact they’re joined this time, after the rather plain-looking prequel, by some wonderful pastel-shaded graphics that were jaw-dropping when the game was originally released in 1995 and still manage to impress now. As with the other Super Mario Advance titles, this game also contains a four-player version of the original Mario Bros. arcade game, making it even more of a bargain than it already was. --David Jenkins, desertcart.co.uk One of the most memorable games of all time comes to the Game Boy Advance! In this picture-perfect port of the Super NES classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the unlikely duo of brave Yoshi and baby Mario must together brave the beautiful yet treacherous wilds of Yoshi's Island. Richly varied gameplay, brilliant graphics and precision control perfectly meld in an adventure you won't be able to put down!

Review: Before they were brothers, they were babies... - You know, now that I really think about it, I really do believe this was my first ever Mario game I owned. I had it once a long long time ago for the Game Boy Advance, and I loved it so. I eventually lost it, and recently decided I just had to buy it again to relive the classic prequel to the Super Mario Brothers classic tale/game. You will not be disappointed, however my two complaints would be as follows; 1 - To short. While the game boasts the usual 8 stages with several levels per stage, as well as bonus stages and extra content, it still feels like it isn't enough of this world to play and explore in! Luckily this was corrected by creating sequels to this particular prequel, creating it's own little series in the Mario overworld. 2 - Slightly easy. Let's face it, most Mario 2D side scrolling games don't get all that complicated for the most part. Coming in to play with my first reason, it is fairly easy to sweep through the game and get to the end. But you know what, that's the fun part! Because this is a classic and a must own for any Mario fan in my opinion. The story, for one, is excellent; Diving deep into the lore of the Mushroom Kingdom, we see our two heroes as babies being carried by the stork in little white bundles heading towards their parents house. Suddenly, Kamek the Magikoopa swoops down and kidnaps baby Luigi and the stork, while sending Mario plummeting to the ocean below. However, he lands instead on a mysterious island inhabited by Yoshi's, and when Mario lands on one of their backs with a map leading to baby Bowser's castle, the Yoshi's decide to embark on a quest to reunite the twins and defeat the Koopas... For the 'very first time!' I won't give anymore away, but the game play is excellent and pretty easy to get down while setting a unique difference between other installments in the series while retaining the same game play we know and love... Think of it like playing Super Mario World, but always riding Yoshi's with even more powers. Yeah, it's that cool. 9/10
Review: An eight-year-old's review - I personally think this game is too hard. Well, that doesn't stop me from playing it. Well, let's face it. World 4 is about a gigantic monster that is a helper. And believe me, that is nearly impossible, in my opinion. Don't take my word for it though. This guy snatches one of the Mario Brothers but forgets the other one. The other Mario falls from the sky onto the green Yoshi's back. Then, a runaway begins. As the Yoshis team up and make an obstacle course to carry Baby Mario on their backs, "Watch Out Below" is my second favorite scene. But, I hold my temper when it gets too hard. I say I won't let my temper go wild, even if this game is a little hard. After all, it is one of the hardest Mario games. On the fourth world, bursting hot lava is coming out and there are little lines that you can jump onto and stay there. But, some of the lines move. And when the giant monster comes, guess who's excited? Me! Some of the levels are a snap and others, well, take nearly two days. Thank goodness for my friend, Joey, at Kids Club. He taught me how to play the game. You can also hop on donuts, and the donuts fall down. So, when you play, I don't want you to get frustrated. You can eat enemies and make eggs, hop over and kill monsters, and it would be a great experience for you. There are also cute little baby sounds. But, if you get caught by a monster, then Baby Mario goes up in a bubble, and you have ten seconds to grab him. But, there are some things that make you get twenty seconds to grab him. But, this time you don't control the characters. They control you, if you know what I'm saying. Killing the big gigantic monster on the front cover is easy. You can just make one of those eggs and throw it at him. But, he might eat you up. Of course, the monster you see on the front cover isn't always that big. He gets big a few minutes later. But, the cover of the game doesn't exactly look the same as the characters in the game. The monster is blue on the cover of the game, and he is red in the game. Don't you think that's strange? Yoshi has an excellent jump. Jumping over the monster will be easy. But, beware of the monster. I recommend this game for everybody!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of the greatest platformers of all time
*by R***) on March 14, 2012*

1995 seemed to be a great year for a gamer. The Donkey Kong Country series went portable with DK Land, Rayman was a surprise full of perfection, and Vectorman appealed to Sega Genesis players with its colorful pre-rendered graphics that DKC had done. All of these games were great, but Yoshi's Island was the best of all. While Rayman would have been my favorite game of all time, it suffered from the most extreme difficulty EVER. Yoshi's Island has amazing graphics, catchy sound/music, awesome gameplay, AND forgiving difficulty alike. This is not the average Mario game, but rather is it what fans would call a Yoshi game, since it plays a lot differently. As Yoshi, you romp through levels like usual, but now you can throw eggs at enemies, as well as eat enemies to make eggs. There is also a huge variety of obstacles, like boulders, loads of unique platforms, collectible flowers, the enemies doing all kinds of stuff, etc, etc. But the thing is: It is all well-crafted and carefully put together for one of the ultimate platforming experiences. Don't believe me? Go on some video websites and watch some gameplay footage. One look and you'll agree that it looks beyond terrific. There are also some bonuses in the game to help you on your quest to defeat the evil Bowser Jr. For example, there are small houses that you may possibly find in a level (It requires a key, though). Once you are able to enter in, you must compete with an enemy in a certain challenge (Collect most coins, Pop most balloons, etc). There's also bonus challenges when the goal chooses a flower you had collected (In a roulette-like way). Overall, it's definitely one of the greatest platformers I have ever played. I may prefer Super Mario World as the best of all, but this game certainly comes close to winning that title. Oh, yeah. The GBA remake of Mario Bros contained in this cartridge rocks, too.
