However, I'm now seriously thinking of developing a proper layout using Kato Unitrack. Even on a deep-pile rug, connectivity is smooth and consistent, and my normally problematic locos now run as smoothly as my best runners. The Kato controller seems much flimsier than my heavy-duty Gaugemaster units, but the fine control is just as good. This track is much more expensive than the likes of Peco, but if what you enjoy is running trains, rather than constantly problem-solving, it's worth it. Also, the track looks good and you can barely see the joins. 10 out of 10 for both Kato and Cheltenham Model Centre. I think it comes down to the fuses within the plug and where you order it from I hope that helps. **Q: What are the dimensions of the oval** A: It's roughly 4'6" by 2'3" . The curve radius is 12 3/8", which works well for all the rolling stock that I have. But most of my stock operates fine on a tighter radius. You can reduce the length by omitting a section or two of straight track. There is a V5 set that comes with 11" radius curves, bringing the width down to less than 2'. But it doesn't come with power pack, etc. The likes of container bogies will not work on that radius.
