## Description

desertcart.com : Insecticide Organic Surround WP 25 Pound Bag : Insect Killers : Patio, Lawn & Garden

Review: Amazing Product - This is an amazing product for gardening. It's a very fine powder almost like baking flour or talcum powder which is mixed with water and sprayed on the plants using a sprayer. It protects the plants and lowers the plants' internal temperature which keeps them healthier. Surround WP is safe for the bees. Surround WP is not a pesticide although I don't think bugs like it. It's more like an irritant for the bugs. Whether Surround WP helps with things like molds and fungus I don't know. I spray the plants with a pesticide on one evening and then the next evening I apply the Surround WP. I use the SEVIN pesticide until the plants start producing buds and flowers at which point I switch over to Organocide 3-In-1. This way I don't think I'm hurting the bees since SEVIN is harmful to bees. Organocide seems to be safe for strong, mature, flowering plants but it killed two of my cucumber seedlings. I have used Surround WP on squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a few other assorted vegetable plants like egg plant and peppers. I doubt that Surround WP would hurt any type of plant unless it is overused to the point that the plants are coated too thickly with it. I'm getting good results so far including the cucumbers which seem to be susceptible to many insects and fungus. Although even after doing all this I'm having to cut away leaves on the cucumbers which are getting some type of mildew which may be downy mildew. The 25 pound bag of Surround WP will last me a long time for the small garden I work in. I filled up two of those Home Depot plastic containers from this bag. A general recommendation is to use pesticides that are mixed with water and apply it at night. This allows the liquid mixture to dry overnight in the cooler temperatures. This is safer for the plants and also prevents the bees from coming into contact with the wet pesticide. Bees aren't active at night.
Review: I really like it, but it is messy - This is my first time using this product. I really like it, but it is messy. Afterall basically has the consistency of talcum powder. It mixes well in the sprayer and spray on the trees well. My seller shipped it fast. I had a great eperience with this stuff. I'll use it again early in the season next year.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what is the remaining 5% of surround? as 95% is kaolin clay**
A: It's a proprietary ingredient. This site has links to more detailed information on the product:http://www.planetnatural.com/product/surround-crop-protectant/

**Q: I saw that it can be used on vegetables. Does it keep squash borers off of the squash plants?**
A: I can't say. I can say it would reduce productivity some. It cuts the amount of sunlight the plant receives significantly. That's OK in an orchard where the apple trees are "turning off" by afternoon - probably less so for squash. For squash borers try BT and insecticidal soap, and make sure you're putting it on every 5 days a/o every time it rains - my 2 cents.

**Q: How long does one application last?**
A: It depends on what you are using Surround for. Surround WP protects the plant in 4 ways. The product is a calcined kaolin material that protects against sunburn, lowers canopy temperatures increasing photosynthesis and it protects and camouflages the plant from insects and in so doing prevents disease spread by insect vectors. Depending on your coverage, how fast the plant is growing and weather subsequent applications may be required in 7 to 21 days. Because it is easy to see the barrier film you are applying to the plant it is easy to see when you need to spray again when once it is visibly obvious that your application is not longer thorough and uniform over the entire plant. Thanks for considering AgCare Products and AgCareDirect via Amazon as you make your purchase.

**Q: Will this work with cucumber beetles?**
A: Don't know have not tried it. Am guessing chalky property would retard bugs on any kind especially while in early-hatched form. In my experience beetle are the "toughest nut" my first/second choices would be "Take Down" combo pyrethrin/canola oil avail as concentrate also inexpensive alternative to try might be Neem oil. These are pretty benign products suitable for edibles.

### ⭐⭐ Seemed Like A Good Idea But Went Bad
*by R***Y on May 22, 2018*

I bought this directly from the manufacturer to control mites and aphids on my Red Lake Currant Bush and my Akane Apple tree. Although I am religious about pruning them in the winter and doing at least 3 dormant oil sprays until late February, I can't seem to control the rapid proliferation of these pests come spring. Part of the problem is that you must simultaneously destroy the ants as well as they have a symbiotic relationship with aphids, doing everything possible to ensure aphid survival so they can feed off aphid "milk". I can't say I'm fond of this product or that it's effective. Perhaps if it weren't so difficult to apply I'd have better success. But one must use 3 cups (yes, you read that correctly) per gallon of water which means wearing a mask to put in the sprayer which then clogs up. Perhaps an agitator would help? And it does no good to just cover the plant; one must hand turn each leaf to get the UNDER side where the beasties dwell or it's useless. It's super messy too. I manage to get it all over me, the windows, the walkways, etc. And as soon as it rains or you water, you must re-apply. I've had better luck either handpicking the infested leaves and destroying them or spraying with a forceful stream of water. Less messy too. So not sure what to do with the other 20+ pounds of it I have.
