Instructions are missing an important step!

So... I read everything on instructions. I read the book, bought some heavy whipping cream and went to town. After 40 minutes I only had traces of butter coming out of the plunger hole in the splash guard. But then I realized I wasn’t really splashing. Apparently, in order for butter to form, you need to lift the plunger out of the liquid before tamping it back down. This is never explained or addressed. It’s especially important for first timers. Once I started actually splashing out of the cream, I had butter in about 20-25 minutes, but it does tell you that older cream will form faster. Maybe that’s where the 10-15 minute butter comes from. The rest of the directions were pretty user friendly and worked well. The system is VERY easy to clean since everything comes apart into simple, separate pieces. A few drops of cream seemed to sneak below the first rubber line of the bottom, but no actual leaks. I am curious how long the wood plunger will last before it starts to get gross even with proper care. Considering the amount of time this takes and the price of cream to butter, I’m not crazy about the purchase but I do plan to keep it.Side note/pro tip: you may want to do this without an audience. Considering the squelching sound made once you have some butter and the somewhat sexual noting of the churning itself... it can be a little unsettling for visitors. Or possibly sexy for your counterpart. Not sure, just something my husband and I happened to notice.

    Gets messy

*by J***M on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 7, 2015*

Nice little item to try making your own homemade butter. Elegant design, and container size is good, but it has some flaws. Because it's an up and down churn type, it splashes and it leaks out at the top and gets messy to handle. Churn stick seperates into two and I feel that this may end up being a problem. Top part is plastic while bottom is wood and over time it does come loose and you have to tighten it back together. Not so much, but just a little bit after you used it. I have not been successful at making butter come out as hard as shown in the video. It always comes out spreadable soft. Bottom piece comes off to allow butter to be taken out easily into your butter keepers. If you want to get serious about making homemade butter and if you plan to do it more than just once and start eating healthy at home, I recommend Kliner Butter Churn 10oz capacity instead.

End Result is Well Worth the Work

*by K***M on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 4, 2015*

This is a product for you home cooks who are willing to put in a little time and effort into creating something delicious that you also give you the comfort of knowing exactly what is in your food. The end result is awesome - I ended up making honey butter with exactly the salty sweet taste I was looking for. I followed the instructions and used aged, but not expired, heavy whipping cream. I let it sit to get to room temperature for 90 min. The instructions said 1-2 hours so I went for right in between. The instructions said it would take 10-15 min of moderate tamping for thickening to begin. It took 20 min of churning for any sort of thickening to happen for me. I was almost ready to give up. But, I stuck it out and once the thickening started it went pretty fast to finished butter solids. I suppose the variation in time has to do with the tamping speed, temperature of the room, how aged my heavy cream was, etc. I did get splashes of cream and then eventually whey through the hole at the top that the damper passes through. So, follow the instructions to put a plate or paper towel underneath. I added in salt and organic blackberry honey to the taste that I wanted. It was used on cornbread that was made for dinner that night and it was amazing - got rave reviews from my dinner guests. We finished the whole batch and I immediately made more for English muffins and toast for the next days' breakfasts.
