It is supposed to hold onto the anchor to hold it in place. My piercing is high on my cheek bone and the anchor is flush with my skin. It ended up clamping onto the tops screw point preventing it from moving. I finally got it off after 30min.Also in the video they show the woman just screwing in the jewel top. After buying this clamp and jewel top I had to go to the tattoo shop to have them put a top back on. I had to pay them to do it and I had to purchase their jewels. I was told by the man changing it that even he can't change the dermal tops on his face on his own. I imagine this would be good for some but I feel like I was deceived by the video. I'd rather save $5 to attempt to do it myself than to go ask my piercer. So, I was super excited when I found these! Sadly, I would not recommend these to anyone with dermals of any kind! It is super tricky to place them, painful if you aren't careful and it can get messy. It was a horror story for me trying to use them on my dermals. I was going to return them and get a refund, but I have several other piercings that are tricky to switch out, so I decided to try these to help-- which was a GREAT idea. They are a huge help with piercings such as nipple piercings, tragus piercings and any cartilage piercings. My fingers are too big so it's super hard to change those out but with these bad boys, it's super easy! I give this product 5 stars because even though I couldn't use it for it's intended purpose, I found another way to make them useful.
