## Description

A horrible crime has been committed on the grounds of Warwick Manor and it's up to the psychic investigators to get to the bottom of it. In Mysterium, one player takes on the role of the ghost and over the course of a week, tries to lead the investigators to their culprit. Each night the team will be met with visions, but what is the ghost trying to tell you? Can the psychics determine the weapon, location and killer or will a violent criminal pull off the perfect murder? Contents: 6 Intuition tokens, 6 sleeves, 6 clairvoyance level markers, 36 clairvoyance tokens, clock board, 4 progress boards, 18 character psychic cards, 18 location psychic cards, 18 object psychic cards, sand timer, 18 character ghost cards, 18 location ghost cards, 18 object ghost, 6 ghost tokens, 84 vision cards, 6 culprit tokens, 3 crow markers, clairvoyance track; rulebook. In the 1920's, Mr. MacDowell, a gifted astrologist, entered in his new house when he immediately detected a supernatural being. Gathering eminent mediums of his time for an extraordinary séance, they will have 7 hours to contact the ghost and investigate to unlock an old mystery. Unable to talk, the amnesic ghost will communicate with the mediums through visions (illustrated cards). They will have to decipher the images to help the ghost remember how he was murdered (who? where? which weapon?). The more they cooperate and guess, well, the easier it will be to the catch the right culprit. This party game is one of the most anticipated games, thanks to innovative, thrilling and immersive features. It offers cooperation and investigation with an asymmetrical gameplay. While playing the ghost or a medium, you will have fun trying to guess what other players have in their minds! So enter in this strange manor and let yourself be led by your intuition.

Review: Love this game! - We bought this to play with me, my husband and our 8-year-old daughter for Halloween during the COVID lockdowns. We loved it and have played several times since! The game pieces are beautiful and very nice/sturdy quality. They definitely feel like they live up to the price of the game. I also really love that everything has a particular place in the box, so you can put everything back very neatly -- which helps keep the pieces in beautiful condition, and avoids the frustration of figuring out how to cram it all back in and shut the box. The instruction book is very detailed (which I actually love!), and will take some time to read all the way through. The only person who really needs to read it though is the "ghost". Their role is the most complicated, but still not hard once you've played it through once. There are also a lot of variations on how to play for different sized groups, or to make it more challenging. So far we've only played with three of us. And we did modify the gameplay a little to make it easier for our 8-year-old. The game is sort of like Clue in that you need to figure out the who, where, and how of someone's death. In this case the "ghost's" death. One player plays the ghost, and they are not allowed to speak at all during the game. They communicate through giving other players cards with these really random images on them. The players need to use those cards to try to interpret what the ghost is trying to signal to them. They could be trying to tip the players off with the colors in the card, or some shape, or a particular image or theme. It might be that the person they're trying to help ID is wearing a hat and there's a person wearing a hat in their card. Maybe the location was in the kitchen and there is food somewhere on the card. The thing is there's a ton of other stuff on each card too, so it can be very easy to misinterpret what the ghost is trying to communicate. And the ghost isn't supposed to give any facial expression or other indication of whether you're on the right track until the end of the turn when they merely confirm or deny your guess. We have played it with all three of us being the ghost at different times. It is really interesting (and challenging) to have to get into the mind of the person playing the ghost and try to interpret what they might think is meaningful. Even "worse" the other players can talk to each other, and even help each other try to interpret it. Which sometimes helps you figure it out, and other times you're sitting there as the ghost thinking "don't listen to him! He's wrong, and you were on the right track!" but you can't say anything. Which keeps it interesting and engaging no matter what your role. The game has endless playability, especially if you change up the players. After a while, you can start to get a sense of what kinds of clues certain players tend to focus on (for instance, my daughter focuses a lot more on the colors or bigger images, whereas my husband gets ridiculously nuanced). But even then, we love playing it, and every game is different.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anything like Clue?**
A: Yes and no - in clue you play against each other moving around a board and making guesses at person-place-weapon in an attempt to solve the crime first. Information is kept secret and you have to be in the right place and the right time. In Mysterium you win or lose as a team. For the first, longest part of the game, you are each trying to figure out a person-place-weapon assigned just to you (each person has been assigned their own unique person-place-weapon combo). There is no board to move around, no race to the finish - you simply need to all guess your combos before the night ends. The ghost hands out 1-7 cards with dream like pictures (think Dixit, but more complex and darker theme) to each player - this is the player's "dream"/"vision" - each player has 1-7 cards each turn that relate only to what *they* are trying to figure out that turn (first turn everyone is trying to figure out who their person is, when they solve that they move on to place and then to weapon). The cards are public and everyone may advise each other on what person-place-weapon they think any given "dream" is suggesting. After 7 turns (or sooner if everyone has guessed their combos), one of the player combos becomes THE combo - the true murder in the true location with the actual weapon. All the combos are laid out on the table and the ghost gives out one shared dream of 3 cards - one for the person, one for the place, one for the weapon (it's a little more complex...) - the players each vote on which their unique combos the ghost is trying to say is the TRUE one. If the majority guesses right, everyone wins. If not, everyone loses. So, as you can see, Clue may be the closest comparison, but it is not all that similar to Clue.

**Q: How similar is this to Letters from Whitechapel? The gameplay sounds very similar - I'm wondering if they are different enough to warrant owning both**
A: Absolutely worth owning both. The gameplay mechanics and reasoning behind them are quite different. Whitechapel is about DEDUCTIVE reasoning based on Jack's hidden movement and trail. Players triangulate where the Jack player is based on where he has been. Sometimes there is only one solution. Pure logic. Mysterium's gameplay is all about INDUCTIVE reasoning. There can be more than one possible solution and gameplay is about getting inside another player's head to understand the solution they chose. Both Fabulous games. Mysterium is more accessible and family friendly. Non-gamers can get into it right away, while Whitechapel is more demanding. Whitechapel is more similar to Fury of Dracula, another great game that has just been republished.

**Q: Is the game worth getting if you usually only have 2 players? Our game nights with friends are infrequent. Is it worth it?**
A: Depends on the players, personally I think it makes a great 2 player game. With that said, the game is really meant for 4-5 people. The rule book has special rule changes for more players (where you get to bet on other people being right/wrong), and for fewer people where every person plays two characters at once and some extra cards get added towards the end. It feels a bit duct-taped but the core mechanic of solving whodunits via impressionistic paintings is still fun.

**Q: What is the replayability of this game? Will people end up developing a "code" for the pre-existing pictures for the same set of possible murder?**
A: Having played this game (for the first time just yesterday), I really don't think that people will develop a "code". Kind of like Dixit, it is pretty free association for the images. Since the what, where, and who are random with a number of combinations and there are quite a few pictures, it will be very difficult to line up patterns all that much. I found it was pretty hard, in most cases, for the "ghost" to pick a good picture, so most of the selections were quite "out there". A lot of free association and using what other players were selecting to reduce the number of choices, it was a bit more possible to narrow things down.I believe that this will be a very replayable game but I also expect that after a few games, the players will get better at both picking pictures to associate and figuring out what the picture might mean, but not so much because of the selection of pictures but more because the thinking processes for both the ghost and the players will become more refine through learning how to pick.Overall, I find it to be a pretty good game.DaveBoardgames4us

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super Fun Game
*by S***Y on January 7, 2026*

This is a great game I would recommend to anyone! Make sure everyone gets an opportunity to be the ghost, as I think it helps you better understand what’s going on and how to play the game better. Trying to think like the ghost, find patterns, and make educated guesses is difficult, but also really fun. The combos are also endless, so two games will never be the same. The artwork is beautiful and the whole set is made of quality materials. Definitely worth the price.
