The best quality resin printer for price, period.

*by A***S on Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2019*

The first print of an intricate figurine came out flawless! No adjustments, just plugged in the suggested settings, using the ESUN clear UV resin. And 2 hours later I was convinced. I'm NEVER buying another FDM 3d printer.I'm a product designer. EPAX had a booth at CES 2019. I grilled the owner for 15 minutes about the machine. And was absolutely impressed. His focus was to create a high quality, low-cost resin printer. Literally purchased on amazon an hour later. The prints you see in the pictures are not an exaggeration of quality. He's definitely achieved what he set out to doI had been looking at buying the Anycubic Photon for months and months, and am so glad I didn't. The EPAX is such a better quality printer in my opinion.PROS:No Z-Wobble - Upgraded Z-axis carriage rail (Anycubic Photon doesn't come close to quality here.) Look at the pictures I included. It uses a double steel rod reinforced carriage and steel bearings. No calibration required runs perfectly out of the box.Non-FEP Film for Resin Vat - Reduces print adhesion between layers that helps reduce printing errors.Ultra-Precise Fixed Build Platform - Calibrated to perfection right out of the factory. Something I was not aware of, but resing printers have quite a bit of force due to suction as the build platform pulls away from the bottom of the vat. The Anycubic Photon uses an adjustment system that just plain isn't as rigid. So if you're not careful to tighten things, it can move out of alignment, failed prints, more time not printing. The EPAX uses a 4 point mount that is absolutely rock solid. Was already calibrated perfectly out of the box. I will be surprised if I EVER have to adjust it for the life of the printer.Better Chasis Design - Besides the EPAX being built like a tank with an all steel chassis. The windows on the Anycubic looked enticing until I realized after printing my first print, that you can't view what's happening with the printer unless you pause, and allow the platform to raise. Regardless of how many windows on your printer you have. Which was no problem with the EPAX, pause worked like a dream, print raised to check on build plate adhesion and continued on without any detectable signs that printing was ever interrupted. Windows on a UV resin printer are NOT helpful. Just more opportunity for outside sources of UV light to mess things up.Smell - Honestly I heard over and over about the smell of a resin printer, so far I've hardly noticed a thing...Precise Optical Z homing - Pretty standard on most 3d printer's now, but glad to see they didn't use a less precise mechanical limit switch setup. Again was perfectly calibrated out-of-box. I'm used to FDM printers that need hours of calibration and recalibration. Still can't believe how much easier this is to print with.Better Door Hinge Design - Anycubic Photon can't sit against a wall because it's hinged at the back fo the machine. EPAX can.Aesthetics - I realize this is subjective, but the EPAX looks more professional in my opinion. I'm proud to have it on display in my office. It looks like a piece of expensive lab equipment in my opinion.CUSTOMER SERVICE - Seriously when they say great customer service they mean it. Responses to my e-mail inquiries were sent within minutes to hours. Extremely friendly, very eager to help.CONS:Manual is detailed but needs some refinement to be a little easier for non-technical users to understand. Spoke with owner and said he's addressing this issue though.Anything else that could go here like the smell of resin, or how part processing with resin requires a bit more than FDM 3d printers is so insanely outweighed by the ease of use, quality of print, and out-of-box printability. I don't think they're worth even listing as a con.

The Epax X1 is a great entry level printer

I picked this up last fall, and to be completely honest was a bit nervous about setting it up. I'd never owned a resin printer before, and remember a few hassles setting up my FFCP. This sat in its box for around three months before I built up the courage to tackle setup. When I finally got around to setting it up I realized it was easy, and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. The printer comes by itself, with a spare non-FEP film. There is no curing booth, no easy drain set up. That's where other manufacturers cash-in.You'll need: nitrile (or comparable gloves), a 405nm UV light, and I'd personally recommend a good funnel/filter combo. The resin has a nasty aroma (it's bad for you) so a decent respirator would work well (I like the carbon ones, as carbon absorbs vocs). A set of razor blades would help removing prints from the plate with minimal risk of marring the plate. The print quality is amazing. I wanted a printer that could create detailed miniatures, and this one works beautifully. The quality is phenomenal, though the print volume is small.Speaking of small.... the printer itself is rather small, and would comfortably sit on a desk. Keep in mind that the resin does have an aroma, so creating some sort of ventilation that uses activated carbon (aquarium supply stores) would greatly help.Also... I'd recommend setting the printer and handling resin in some sort of tray. It's easy to spill a drop here or there and suddenly it's everywhere.I'll post some pics of prints, so you can see the quality. That's what sold me, and for the price point it's hard to beat.

This is a very cool printer! There are a few printers like this out there but this one takes all the not so great parts about them and fixes them. The Non-FEP film in the material vat is quite the difference. I ripped my first film and purchased some FEP film because I thought it was the same but it is not. The FEP film sticks slightly to the LCD screen and then the image per layer has to go through the film. This slicer software is the pretty much the same as other slicers for these types of printers so there are a lot of tutorials for different settings. I like the white material the best. I found if I over cure each layer using about 15 seconds, I just pull it off the printer and do not have to wait to post cure it at all. It does not take a lot to post cure either. I just agitated the parts in alcohol and then cleaned it off with another cup of alcohol and then I washed the parts off with water and let it sit for an hour and then it becomes pretty hard. I tried some material that was not eSun and found it was not as rigid as the white and clear that eSun has. Any issue I had I emailed the people over at Intservo and they got back to me with all the information I needed. I now have two of these EPAX printers and after we chug out the max amount prototypes and parts at this size, I may go back and get another.
