Ice is powerful, and unless you are on a small pond you will have problems. If you want to mark a mooring, just tie some floating rope (polypropylene, not nylon) to your chain with enough slack to float on the surface. The ice will not catch the end of the rope and it will pull through during ice-out. **Q: Looking to purchase these as a gift. What size would I need for a 34 ft boat?** A: It would depend on the shape of the hull. My boat is 33 ft, and I use a size A2 near the stern and an A3 toward the bow. This arrangement works very well for the lock walls of the New York State canal system. They, of course, can be raised or lowered to provide proper protection. **Q: Imma doofus and lost the plastic screw for my A-4. Really takes solid hits and trains bare fists. I blew it up with a standard hose and slim nozzle. I got size A-2 and it’s sufficient for anything I need uppercuts hooks etc. I’m 5”4 if you need reference for the picture. I advise you not to have it under the sun or cover it with a drape as I noticed mine stretched a bit from its own water weight (i began to hear the water slush around when it was filled to the brim and could not before).
