It did smell kinda funny the first day ...updated 02-1-16 - I modified an old solar fence energizer to be just battery operated so I needed a device that would maintain and float a 6volt battery. This does just fine. It did smell kinda funny the first day but does not smell anymore and is working just fine on a 3 dollar timer. I set the timer to activate 3 times a day for 1 hour each time...the battery is happy the deer are not. Win!!!! Update: 02-01-16 This charger worked perfectly for me until today when the charger bit the dust. Even though I was using this for a fencer I was well within the desired parameters of such a device and it is disappointing that it died a little over a year and a half later. I took the "wall wart" converter apart and noticed a black chip on the little circuit board is scorched a little. I suppose it is time for another one unless a miracle happens because I am past the return policy by a year or so...lol. Thought this would have lasted longer than what it has though.
