### ⭐⭐⭐

    Unorganized, and my professor agrees

*by J***. on Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2014*

My professor had two of the authors as teachers when he was in law school decades ago and that is pretty much the only reason why he uses it. The organization is terrible. My professor jumps around from chapter to chapter, makes it hard to keep up. The silly looking cover also looks very out of place amongst my all red or all blue legal casebooks.I bought a used version and was fortunate enough to get one full of very helpful notes. I've stopped reading for class because of it, thank you whoever owned it last!

Not something to skim over when preparing for class. MUST allot an extra hour or 2 to utilize this book and enjoy course

This book is definitely something that you learn to love. Criminal procedure is such a complicated system, it's not suppose to be easy. And this book doesn't make it any easier. One reason for that is that, a lot of the areas we covered (especially 4th amendment materials) are continuously evolving in unexpected ways, so it's difficult to predict with any certainty. Another is the fact that the world has changed so much since the last decade or so, that it's almost impossible to law down brightline rules on any area.I was assigned this book for my 2nd year. My tip to you, if you buy it, is, you have to spend at least an hour or two extra on the assignments. This book and the course requires you to actually "think," unlike other law school courses. A deeper understanding comes with thinking and applying the principles, rather than skimming the cases and notes and copying down some rules.

### ⭐⭐

It works, but it is completely disorganized and not updated frequently enough.

*by D***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2014*

I did not like this book. Crim Pro was already tough. I liken it to getting an anal exam, but once it's over, you realize it was good for you regardless of how awkward it was at the time. The problem I had with the book was the same issue I appear to notice with most of the Constitutional Law books. The issue: you never know what case is the seminole case because a long case could be worth nothing because a small note case in the same section overrules that case. The books are no doubt randomly updated, and the worthy cases are put into the notes until the authors determine their relevance. I found that this book confused me, as most law books have the main cases in full length, and the unimportant cases in notes. No case is really unimportant in Constitutional law, but this book made learning Crim Pro a cringe-worthy event. If the book was better organized, it would be rated higher.Just to note another thing: this book is a shorter version of the full hardcover text. I don't know what unlucky class would ever be required to read the hardcover. I did decent in the class, but this book was not the reason. I chose to supplement this book with an outline and online research to determine how each case worked in conjunction with others.
