The sable hairs will split when dry but when wet they keep a very impressive point. Changing to 5 stars Original Review: I love this brand and will continue to purchase these brushes… but I’m only giving it four stars because the $60 #6 immediately cracked around the base of the ferrule after an hour of use. I’ve had brushes last ten years without this happening - I’m more surprised than disappointed. The replacement brush looks like it’ll last longer. Nothing holds paint like Sable and these brushes feel very nice. I did a blind test against the S7 and a cheap Sable off desertcart and could definitely feel the difference. As this one is highly recommended by a lot of miniature painters, I decided to give it a try. After years of using brushes that probably have not cost more than $2 in the past (with exception to a really cheap Kolinksy brush), this one is a game changer. Holds paint very well, keeps a tip, and is very smooth and accurate. As others have pointed out, you do often get a stray hair or two, but cutting them off with a sharp hobby knife or clippers fixes the problem. The only other problem I have is that because they are so expensive comparatively, I waited so long to give them a try. Appears to be a wooden box. Would make me more comfortable in the shipping.** A: I believe the limited does come with the box. However, I have purchased 3 different Series 7 brushes (#0, #3 and #7) and they have all been packaged in a plastic cylindrical container from the manufacturer. It also has the plastic ring that protects the brush point. They actually take good care in protecting these brushes, I dont think you'll have a problem with the non-limited edition. Unless, of course, your mail person practices their karate with your packages. **Q: Could you use this with ink (dip pen and/or fountain pen ink)?** A: I'm sure you could. Although I am unfamiliar with the process of cleaning ink from a brush myself, as long as the brush is kept clean it will last you a good while. **Q: Can you use series 7 brushes with Tamiya arcylic paints or is it not recommended** A: Yes you can. I use the #7 daily with modeling acrylics. It is important to keep them clean. With acrylics try to only dip the first half of the brush in paint. This protects the ferrule. Use a good brush soap, reform your point, dry them with the brush hanging down, and it will give you great painting for years. I’ve tried other “just as good as…" brushes. They’re not. The Winsor and Newton Series 7 is the Gold Standard. Btw, I’m an amateur modeler and certainly do not rep any company. Brush was cracked and bent, even though packed in a tube. I was surprised when I opened the tube because it was so fancy. I am returning this item but also bought another one from same company. We will see how second one comes. I’m disappointed because I work 80 hrs a week and have little time to paint. Was planning on using it this weekend to paint with and now I can’t.
