## Overview

The Turbo Booster enhances your Turbografx 16 by adding A/V jacks for superior composite video and stereo audio. It seamlessly integrates with your existing setup, requiring no additional power supply, and maintains the sleek aesthetic of your console.

## Description

The Turbo Booster adds A/V jacks for composite video and stereo audio to your Turbografx 16 and allows you to hook up to modern televisions with startling clarity and stereo sound. This is a must have for any serious video gamer. What a difference the TurboBooster makes in picture and sound compared to the TG16's built in RF jack. The pictures are clearer and the sounds are crisper. Though NOT required, for BEST results, either pair with an old CRT tv, OR, use in tandem with an OSCC or Framemeister video upscaler when using a modern flat display. The TurboBooster connects to the bus expansion port in the back of the TurboGrafx 16... just remove the back cover and slide the Booster on in its place, it couldn't be simpler. NEC shaped the TurboBooster the same as the back cover to the console, so the system looks exactly the same with the Booster, keeping the aesthetic appeal of the console intact.

## Features

- Adds A/V jacks for composite video and stereo audio to your Turbografx 16 (sold separately)
- Uses your exisiting TG-16 power supply, so no additional power plug/brick required!
- Uses any standard composite/stereo AV cable (red, white and yellow).
- Shaped to replace the original back plate of a TG-16 to keep the same sleek look
- Improves the audio and video of your TG-16 / Turbografx-16 instead of using RF.

A must for hardcore TG-16 players!

*by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2011*

This is by far the cheapest (relatively speaking) way of getting better video out of your beloved Turbo Grafx 16. Composite video is a vast improvement in quality over RF since the signal paths for the audio and video are separated. I bought one new 10 years ago from Turbo Zone Direct (R.I.P) and sold it along with my old TG-16 collection. I have since gotten another system and am falling in love all over again. The only other option for Composite AV out on the Turbo Grafx is the very hard to find and very expensive CD attachment. This is a simple unit to use, just take the dust cover off the back and attach to the expansion port. Done! I have to say here that this item is for hardcore fans. $70 is not cheap for a video game peripheral. But if you're a hardcore retro gamer, then go for it! Amazon has had the best price and has been the only place I could find one at a reasonable cost. I hope this review is helpful to you!

    Adds Composite (Yellow/Red/White) video output

Great add-on if you find it cheap.I'll breakdown what the differences between Turbo Booster and Turbo Booster PlusTurbo Booster:Composite VideoNo Internal Save BatteryTurbo Booster Plus:Composite VideoInternal Save BatteryThat's the jist of it. They are identical in form factor and dimensions. One simply has the addition of "Plus" on the casing. This accessory plugs into the back pins of your North American Turbo Grafx 16 console. There are cheaper alternatives to getting Composite Video out of the stock system. If you search online, you can find simple diagrams for making a home-made cable that does the same thing. It's really a world difference between RF and Composite on these consoles.

    This little pricey accessory...

*by A***Y on Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2012*

It is indeed worth the money, but if you're not a collector or merely a dabbler in the Turbografx 16's mostly small North American library of games it is probably hard to justify the cost of such an accessory. However, in terms of functionality we are talking exquisite and necessary improvement over RF signal. We are talking composite video at a time when it was practically unheard of for most gaming consoles. Though not an exuberant collector of the games myself, I have acquired the Turbo Booster simply for the sake of someday being able to sell off what I have as a small collection rather than the accessory being sold individually. The hardware is similar to the CD-Add on in the fact that the console, with the inclusion of the Turbo Booster attachment, has the capability of recording high scores and outputting composite video signal along with stereo composite RCA audio as well. Though truly the only ugliness is in form rather than function. The Turbo Booster is massive, attaching itself directly to the serial-type extension port on the back of any Turbografx 16. It is one of the ugliest and most over-sized consoles released by a Japanese company in North America, so it isn't surprising that NEC would also produce an accessory that rather boldly states just how ugly they wanted it to continue to be. How the PC-Engine so drastically sold, marketed itself, and succeeded in Japan is hardly a question of proper marketing. Rather the actual design was so much more superior than the North American equivalent of a large oddly shaped black box that hardly required the "space" that it managed to take up. It is 2012 and you cannot possibly place the Turbografx 16 properly on an entertainment center without being a little horrified at the possibility of being unable to "stack" a damn thing onto it due to the terribly unergonomic (not to mention 90's economy aesthetic)shape it was made in. Though an ugly misshapen swan in may be, it is still cherished by many.
