This will work to find POWER in a line. A/C or D/C, it does not matter. The voltage you can work with is determined by the bulb, so with this tester's removable/replaceable 12V bulb you can test around 6 to 24 volts or so. You can poke into an electrical wire to find voltage, but ask yourself if you want holes in buried outdoor wires. This is a quick down and dirty voltage probe.
