We ship the stands with protective vinyl caps over the ends to keep them from poking through the poly bags we protect them in. Unfortunately this item is not heavy enough to hold a purse without holding the stand, or putting something on the bottom so that it doesn't fall over. The stand will extend up to 28 inches up, and gives the right amount of space between the bottom and the top of the stand, just needs to be heavier on the bottom.
