I hold an MA in history, but it had been years since I really studied ancient history, and this book helped me remember what I had not studied or read about since high school. If you specialize in another area of social studies such as economics or sociology, you might want to pick up a Western Civ history book and a U.S. History book. The written text itself is succinct and clear. I would read individual sections and take the the short succeeding practice exams. Another flaw is the short practice exams that follow each chapter of the book, include the answers, so if you want to see how much knowledge you have, you need to cover up the answers. The text includes a couple of factual errors as well.The free Flashcards are useless, and seem to be more generic terms than anything designed for the MTEL.The tests are a useful study tool. Massachusetts provides one practice exam on their website, this book provides two more.Most importantly, I passed the exam with my first attempt! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have really enjoyed using the Cirrus test prep book to prepare for ... *by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2016* I have really enjoyed using the Cirrus test prep book to prepare for my History MTEL’s. What I like most about the book is how easy it is to read - it isn’t confusing, it gets the main points across quickly, and all of the important information I need to know is in bold so I can go back and review what I’ve already learned later on. I liked how aligned the book is to what MTEL says is on the test, how it is organized by topic and then by major themes within that topic. I loved how the answers always had explanations next to them, including why an answer was wrong - that really helps the information stick instead of being confused as to why I got something right or wrong. Ideally, as a way to improve, there could be more sample questions (perhaps even an entire additional practice test) given the expensive cost of the book.
