A few downsides, and it was not a huge deal to me, was it got a little dirty and when I wiped it off with a rag it kinda scuffed the material. Again not a huge deal to me but it is noticeable. After accidentally pushing my Surface Pro 6 off my lap, of the the kickstand hinges broke and fixing it wasn't going to be easy. I thought of just buying a case with a buil-in kickstand and found that the OmniPak case for the Surface Pro 7 would fit it. It's beautiful and of very high quality. After removing the kickstand from the computer, one hinge folded in nicely and the broken one fell out. I laid the computer onto the case, pushed and it cllcked in place. It's so thin that you hardly know it's there. When open and stand the computer up to use, you can stop at any angle you want and the case magically stays in whatever position you put it in through a perfect amount of friction on its surfaces. It's so functional, I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't bought Omnipak yet and integrated the case with the computer for purchase together! JMHO.
