There are two levels of products from this company; I will restrict the discussion to shoe creams only. The upper level, Medaille D'or, is about 2~3 times more expensive when compared to the lower level (this product). Many shoe enthusiasts say the upper level is definitely a lot better, but it does not mean the lower level one is bad. Long story short, this product is basically the "watered down" of the Medaille D'or. It is still a high performance cream compared to any other shoe creams at this price point. I see some people complain that the leather did not take the staining effect from this cream at all. And here is why:Full grain leather has open pore structures ("sweat holes"), and this is why this kind of leather can take the color and nutrients from shoe cream products. However, most cheaper leather products, despite they are sold as "genuine leather," are sanded down leather (hence no pore structures to take the stain and nutrients). Companies do it because it can cover imperfections as they get worse quality hides. Furthermore, sometimes companies additionally coat a layer of plastic on the top of this sanded down leather in order to create a shiny look. As you may have guessed, this kind of leather repels stain and nutrients from creams even more. These are often referred as 'corrected grain' leather. When I buy any leather products, not only I make sure the leather is not fake, I also check whether the leather is sanded down or not. Hopefully this short guide helps some people.
