Ive used it extensively for VLAN segmentation, running several VLANs with hybrid port configurations mixing tagged and untagged traffic - and it handles it easily. The serial console works great for out-of-band management, which is a must-have for lab work where misconfigurations happen. Putty seems to work best with the console cable, but I prefer Termius for SSH (I recommend connecting with a key/passphrase and disabling password auth for security). Also, Mikrotik gives lifetime updates on their devices unlike other brands who reach end of life and stop updating and patching vulnerablilities, which is one of the main reasons I run exclusively with Mikrotik devices. I also rather like using RouterOS. It has so many options that you typically only find in enterprise equipment at much higher price ranges. Price is quite close to a non managed switch with same number of ports. So you pay a bit more and get all sorts of features like firewall, VPN, etc. Haven’t had any issues with heating or stability. Works well. Identifying port leds takes a bit of getting used to.
