Not wanting to be kept awake by the constant crinkling noise when I moved, if I had stuck this in my sleeping bag, I decided to take two of them and cover the tent between the fly and tent roof. I made sure the screen vents were covered and it pretty much covered the whole area that the fly did. My theory proved correct and these things reflected the body heat that would have dissipated through the roof of the tent. It worked so well, in fact, that I had to remove one of the layers of covers I had on me during the night. I lived in a house that was difficult to heat, so I thought it was a great idea. HOWEVER, it turned out the waterproof silver bed liner also trapped moisture and I woke up laying in a very damp sheet, and wet night clothes, which was very uncomfortable. I think this Mylar blanket should work for animals too, but if you plan to use it under the animals I suggest you put something between the liner and your animals, something like cedar shavings, or straw, or old blankets which can be changed out easily. That might protect the liner longer too. Using this product to line the interior walls of the doghouse might be a better idea than lining the floor. I think that's how I plan to try using it. I bet I could use a spay on adhesive and just stick it to the walls. It's worth a try! **Q: I think someone is ripping me off because I only got one blanket instead of the advertised 10. The heavier Grabber, and StanSport, and Adventure Medical emergency blankets reflect 90% of your body heat back to you but these are only good for reflecting 80%. There are lots of pros and cons about these. Pros. 1. Takes no more space than a deck of cards. 2. Can be used as a blanket to help a person with hypothermia. Used to reflect the warmth of the fire into your shelter, and useful as a wind break in a shelter. 3. Weighs much less than 1 OZ. Cons. Since these are Mylar they tend to be noisy when you move. Since they are Mylar they tear quite easily so be gentle with them. They are very light weight so they need to be tucked in to keep the cold out. Sometimes you will sweat from the heat reflected back to you so you need to dry off and change clothes ASAP to prevent hyothermia. The way I use these blankets. Duct tape two places on one end. And one place near the bottom on the sides. Next take a fleece blanket and lay down over the emergency blanket and use safety pins to pin the fleece and Mylar blankets together. The duct tape will prevent the Mylar from tearing. This gives you a very light and tiny bedroll that will keep you warm in temperature extremes. The fleece is warm but the fleece adds enough weight to weigh down the Mylar to keep cold air from getting under the blanket. In the winter 2012-2013 I was in Clovis New Mexico, and the temp was very cold. I live in an RV now and RVs are hard to keep warm so I lowered the propane furnace as far as I could, and used the fleece and energency blanket combo to keep me warm at night. I was never too cold or got sick. It also saved a lot of money on propane. There are wonderful. If you are concerned about the Mylar tearing or the noise I Han highly recommend the Adventure Medical blankets sold under the name SOL (Survive Outdoors Longer. These are much quieter than the Mylar ones, and if a hole is made; the SOL blankets can be patched with tape. The SOL blankets cost around $6 each and worth it.
