On a scope, with the meter open circuit, the test waveform is a rounded square wave. When connected to a 100 ohm resistor, the waveform is more of a triangle wave. When connected to a capacitor, it is somewhere between a triangle and a sine wave. **Q: can this meter perform a leak test on motor start capacitors?** A: No. This meter is for one test only - ESR of a capacitor. It does not perform any other tests. **Q: Values in 35v and higher columns decrease as you go down, columns for 10,16,25v decrease, then go back up. is this a typo? hint: look for ".12"** A: Better to use on of the ESR charts you can find online, not the one printed on the case (whether it's right or wrong) **Q: what is better about v2 (version 2) of this MESR-100 meter for the extra $10 it costs over the original version?** A: Compare MESR100 old V1 and new V2 Improvement: For an extra $10 I would get version 2 which is what I have now. 1) Change square wave to sine wave 100 KHz, reduce square wave’s high frequency component, and affect the reading passing the test leads and capacitor. 2) Higher Resolution up to 0.001 ohm. 3) 128X64 dot matrix LCD, with more larger value display and information 4) Embedded 25V capacitor table at LCD, auto display the capacitor is good or bad reference to common 25V electrolytic capacitor. 5) New plastic case, curve design for hand carrying.
