Expect a slightly softer, slower side of MCS

*by B***N on Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2013*

First, I'll state that I've had the album for nearly a week now and I've listened to it over a dozen times. My first impression was, geez this is soft! Was it terrible? No. Was it what I expected from MCS? No! Just seemed slower and more alternative rock.I've noticed through the last few albums they've been ditching the electronic sounds that made their music so distinguishable and MCS. "Go" takes another step in that direction, with far less electronic keyboard like music. Nevertheless, it is still in there, just not as much. And when it is in there, it seems turned down compared to what it used to be. So it doesn't make a big impression sometimes. Or at least that's how it seems to me.There do however seem to be nice symphonic sounds and strings in this album. Which is always cool in a rock song. The songs are indeed good, as well as the album, it just takes awhile for them to grow on you. I was honestly torn about giving the album 4 or 3 stars, but I chose to go with 4 because the album is indeed good, it's just a different side of MCS. And I'm sure with time it'll earn it's legendary place in my MCS collection.Overall I'd give this album a 7.5 out of 10 stars. Which is pretty good. If you like MCS, expect a bit of a slower pace. But the catchy hooks and deeply personal aspect of the lyrics are definitely still there. Which is what hooked me on MCS years ago.

    Great Edition to the Library

*by S***Y on Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2012*

This album is a great pop rock punk album. Motion City Soundtrack shows off their abilities to create great catchy rock with clever and thoughtful lyrics. In many ways they picked up the baton where Weezer dropped it. They're sound is different then Weezer but they have a similar nerd rock feel to them. This a great rock album that doesn't sound like anything else that is out there. If you need some upbeat rock with clever lyrics that roll off your tongue here you go.For the fans:At first this album left me a little confused with its different sound. The more I listen to it the more I hear the great elements that make up MCS. Don't expect a repeat of Dinosaur Life. Go is a great mix of all previous albums. Songs like Circuits and Wires could have easily (and almost did) appear on Dinosaur Life where songs like Floating Down the River have a great mix of Even If It Kills Me and Commit This to Memory.I mention the similarities to calm any fears people have that this album is too different. It is different and gives us fans a great expansion. This album gives a great deal of diversity to the entire MCS library while keeping their distinct style and being a solid album in and of itself.

    Solid Album

*by E***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2012*

I love Motion City, so getting this album was a no-brainer. It's a good album, I don't regret buying it. There are no songs I'd skip over. They calmed it down a bit on this album, in my opinion. Acoustic guitars, slower timing, just generally more chill. This is by no means a bad thing, just different. My favorite song is "Happy Anniversary." I'm not sure if it's because it was the one (new) song at their concert that caught my attention (I hadn't heard any of this album before the show), or what. It's haunting... the overall tone of the song. I really dig it."Timelines" is the catchiest song on this album. It sounds the most like their prior efforts to me.I like this album, I don't feel like this is too off course from other albums, just a bit less electric and slower. I would still recommend it for all Motion City fans.
