A staple tool for smashing and muddling

A top-tier muddling tool. The material won't rot or absorb like wood and will hold up to anything. My only suggestion is that you give the netted heads a few whacks on concrete to dull them a little, as they come too sharp and otherwise shred a little more than they should.

Functional and sturdy

I was originally hoping to find a really nice steel or aluminum muddler, but wasn't able to find something that seemed to be well designed — they'd look gorgeous, but reviews would frequently mention difficulty cleaning them or a lack of longevity. That's when I decided I'd just get something that would get the job done inexpensively, and found this muddler. I don't think I'll be looking at muddlers again for a long while.Several other reviews here mention the packaging on this item to be particularly heinous, and I'm delighted to report that it has been improved substantially if my shipment is any indication. There was an adequate and reasonable amount of plastic (not cling/saran style) wrapped around the muddler that was removed easily, and the sticker attached directly to the muddler was using a very amiable adhesive that didn't leave any detectable residue.The weight of the muddler is fantastic, despite concerns that it would be too lightweight. The end used for muddling is quite sharp and won't be letting cherries or other fruit slip around much, but it isn't my favorite for more delicate ingredients like mint sprigs. In terms of appearance, the color isn't consistent, nor is the glossiness. While this won't influence your cocktail, it isn't something you want to leave out with any nicer cocktail accessories.

I really like this product

After seeing several people comment on the wooden muddlers about the veneer or stain chipping off into drinks, I was relieved to find this guy. And it works great. I don't have a dishwasher, so I don't know how well it holds up there, but so far it's fabulous being hand-washed. It is sturdy construction, feels good and moderately heavy in your hand, and I actually kinda like the fact that I can use either end. One end has the pattern on it so you can really crush things with a good grip, but the other end, which is rounded, I've found to work better for some things. I was making mojitos the other night and when it's just mint and sugar in the bottom of the glass, the patterned end can't get as good of a grip on the leaves, so we turned it over and it worked perfectly really smushing the whole leaf into the sugar. Then, when (on our second one!) we decided to muddle in some cucumber, the patterned side really held a good grip on the cucumber slices while we were trying to crush them. It was perfect! Two in one!
