I had an aggressive thumb sucker, so much so that her teeth were starting to move forward and she had huge blisters/callouses on both of her thumbs. She sucked to go to sleep, ride in the car, even while she was talking she would sometimes refuse to take her thumb out of her mouth. We tried everything: educating her on the bad effect the thumb sucking was having on her teeth, bad tasting nail polish, discouraging her sucking during sit-down times, bribing with daily rewards, but nothing seemed to work. We let her know that we were going to help her stop the habit with these devices, and showed her the star chart included. When the chart is finished, we told her, she would be getting a ride-on toy she has been wanting. We also tied permission to watch her favorite tv show to be dependent upon her completing the previous day successfully without sucking her thumb. Warning: the first week was HARD. The first two days I had adjusted the band too tight, and the device ended up leaving red marks on her hands.
