I cannot get bored of it, no matter how many times I hear it (which is constantly throughout my workday). I'm convinced that Daniel Johns is a lyrical genius, with an uncanny knack for provoking emotion when you least expect it. His lyrics may appear nonsensical at times, but upon further examination, you realize he's referencing some deep things. It's a beautiful album all of the way through.One thing I cannot stress enough is, listen to the whole song!!! There were several tracks when I wanted to skip over them halfway into it, and I'm so, so glad that I didn't! Some of the best stuff - musically & vocally - is in the latter third part of the songs. It's a startling and pleasing surprise. Examples of this are World Upon Your Shoulders, Tuna in the Brine, and Too Much of Not Enough.I really didn't think they could top Neon Ballroom, which was just simply exquisite. And maybe in essence, they didn't top it. Diorama is different in its own way, and cannot be rated above or below Neon Ballroom. I lament the fact that they're not more mainstream (so many people are just missing out, it's just highly unfortunate for them), but then again, I think that's part of their appeal. I feel like I have a secret treasure, and I only share it with the few of you who "get" this highly talented album of Silverchair's. Their music is lovely, brutally honest, and timeless. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful Music From Start To Finish *by G***I on Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2006* I was always a fan of Silverchair, and when I heard Neon Ballroom, I loved the direction they were headed towards. This album is exactly where I hoped they would go. Daniel Johns wrote most of the songs on Diorama on the piano, instead of of guitar. The result is a much more diversified sound, and it all comes together with a perfect blend of his roots and new ideas."On our previous albums, I wrote very angrily about the darkness in this world. If you like Neon Ballroom and the Dissociatives, this is a perfect middleground of the two, and in my oppinion, a big transitional step for Daniel Johns. I'm part of the MTV generation having grown up on Silverchair (I wasn't the biggest fan during the frogstomp,Freak Show era. I can relate to their music and I've always appreciated their talent beyond their years.Diorama is a masterpiece. I remember listening to it several times when I first purchased it in 2002 because I just didn't "get" it. First, it boggles your mind that its Silverchair. Once you get past that you realize DANIEL JOHNS CAN SING! That was apparent on frogstomp and Freak Show but his vocals are the highlight of Diorama (and that is saying a lot because this album has so many highlights). If you're not a Silverchair fan just get a used copy to hear Daniel sing. Silverchair doesn't use pitch perfection software (aka autotuning) and there is a disclaimer on Diorama that states this. I wish there was a vocals only version of this album and an instrumental only version.Read the lyrics while you are listening to this album, it will enhance the experience. The orchestration of this album is amazing. I really don't know what else to say about that. Diorama changed my life and ten and half years later I still play it daily. I've somehow managed to overlook the hauntingly beautiful "My Favourite Thing" until recently. To add further enhancement of this album listen to some of the songs live. Silverchair has a lot of fun playing "The Lever" (I recommend the Live from Faraway Stables version)live. Its hard to pick a favorite track, "After All These Years" is Daniel singing on the piano and I love the message of that song "After all these years, I was hurting to feelSomething more than life"If you're aware of what Daniel has gone through you will feel a connection with this song.Right now I listen to this and try to pick up on Daniel's high notes and boy there are a ton. Pay attention the word "alone" in "Across the Night" or "without you" in "Without You."I can ramble about this album forever. I've converted many people to Silverchair with Diorama. You have to listen with an open mind, remind yourself they have grown up (at this time they were a young 21-22ish).
