When applied it softens the decal allowing the decal to "suck" itself to the surface it's applied to. This makes the decal conform to three surface nicely giving it that painted on look. Mico set is a setting solution which helps the decal stick better. Decals can and will fall off once they dry. This solution helps make sure they stay where they're supposed to. **Q: Is this solution safe with Tamiya acrylic paint and Mr. Topcoat?** A: Tony, I brush a few of coats of Micro Sol Setting Solution over all of my decals on Tamiya acrylics. Just be sure the paint has completely dried or you will remove paint. This solution works great to allow your decal to appear to be painted onto the rough or very detailed surface of your model. Enjoy yourself! **Q: Should this be applied to a dry waterslide decal, or can the decal still be moist? Also, does the Microset make any difference at all?** A: Yes it really makes a difference! First I always brush a little on the model where I am going to place the decal. Then place the wet decal and carefully pat down with the wet brush. About every fifteen minutes or so I put another coat of the solution on the decal until I can see the decal has "dissolved" into panel lines and/or covered the other details as if it was painted on. After all of my decals have been applied and dried for a day or two, I apply a varnish finish coat. This blends the decal lines into the surface and makes the painted on appearance very realistic! I suppose you could go back to models that have not had this process completed as long as no top coat has been applied and it would be the decals that you would be softening - not paint.
