Review: Beautiful controller and collectors piece. - I was lucky enough to play the Microsoft Xbox when I was the age of 9. I came back from school when my brothers came home with the beast that was called Xbox on day one release from Argos! Bundle with it was Jet Set Radio (grind those rails), Sega Racing game that I didn't play until years later and a copy of Halo that was bundled with the console... Now when my brother started to unpack it... I was blinded by its majesty, I was greeted by the DUKE, just the Duke and I fell in love with it. Now being 9, I had small weak and feeble hands and did find myself gravitating to the newer iteration that later came out, but it lacked the presence that the Duke had and I was always coming back for more on Halo and Halo 2 with Co-op with my brother, we both had Dukes and it's a memories that will never leave me until I die. Now I saw the Back Duke Hyperkin on release and just never bothered with it as life was busy and the Xbox One had a terrible launch. Now I recently got the Series X on launch after getting the Gears Xbox one X and have been loving it ever since with the game pass I have stacked for 3 years. I saw the Cortana controller and got that also on day one after watching a YouTube video that just made me fall in love with it. The potential feel, look and Halo video threw me back to an age I thought I'd never go back to, my own personal time machine and no Morlocks to ruin the journey. This controller comes well presented in a beautiful Cortana 20th Anniversary box, little bit bigger than the original box Duke box (due to the stand at the bottom), you get the controller, info leaflets, Hyperkin Sticker, USB-C purple cable, which is a lovely touch and the stand at the bottom of the box. For this controller any Halo fan that loved the original Duke or didn't experience it, should jump on the chance and fast, due to the day and age of scalpers, already some are asking 100+ for wacky reasons with Rare slapped on... I'd advise (if you haven't already done so) get some thumbstick grip protection, you can find some really cheap and decent ones and they save the wear and tear you get, my PS5 thumbstick protectors popped right off and fitted on the Duke snug. Just advice; use them for every controller you use. Saved me replacements, looking at you PS4 thumbsticks also the PS5 controller is a major headache I don't want anytime soon - _- Xbox have always been okay for teardowns for me in my opinion. First game I fired up was Pac-man... Just kidding of course it was Halo MCC, no better way to christen it, any other game would have been an eternal sin I couldn't redeem myself from burning in the red ring of hell. For those that want to know what versions they released and some info. You get no boot sound from the little screen if they added something like that I believe these controllers would be a scalpers dream and in the realm of 100+ plus easy, they are using USB-C for the new 20th edition OG Black/Red/Green Dukes use Micro USB, so get a long spare cable if you want or use the one that is included, it has been noted that some of the original cables are just rubbish from the 1st gen Hyperkin Dukes that said I have the Black, Green, Red and they all work fine, but one green that I got as a spare has a wire issue, the problem is out there in the wild, so I'd rather say it than say nothing at all. The screen doesn't turn off when playing for brief periods it just stays on all the time. They are not wireless at all; lot of people get confused by this and I know why as it is 2021, I'd buy a wireless version in heartbeat. The Cortana edition is the only one thus far to have its own unique boot screen - the black, Red and Green all have the same boot. The white and black 20th have the same boot screen, but it loads into the newer logo after the original with a fade effect, which is... rather nice, I wish it had a choice of which one you could pick by holding down the face button for the Xbox screen, but it's a nick pick than a want. Released version below °Black original Duke - no screen shot button with the OG Xbox boot screen and logo awkward to find in the UK as they don't pop up all that often. Got mine brand new sealed for £88 as it was bids from that bidding site that shall not be named on desertcart or my review wil get taken down... another site do sell these for 62 and they are okay and do come complete or nearly complete. °Black 20th edition Duke includes screen shot button with the OG Xbox boot screen but has the updated white logo that fades after the original boot sequence, green directional and 20th logo on the grip, uses USB-C, again these are disappearing quick. ° White 20th edition Duke includes screenshot button with the OG Xbox boot screen and updated white logo, green directional and 20th logo on the grip. From the site it looks... Meh, but after getting it into my hands it's is much nicer and the white logo does fit well, shamefully you get a green cable and not white... Missed opportunity. Don't push this aside as it is a nice looking controller. ° Red Duke - no screenshot button with the OG Xbox boot screen and green logo, same as the OG Duke, uses micro usb, now the usb has to be a vertiam size as it has a little slot for the usb to go into, so those rounded ones won't fit. Also if they did an afterglow version I'd soon buy it, got mine from America as one sold on that bidding site for £142 and do vary a lot. ° Green - no screenshot button with the OG Xbox boot screen and green logo same as the OG Duke, uses Micro USB same as red with the tolerances on the size you can use, again the prices for these do fluctuate. °Blue and Golden/Orange transparent was made and some units did leave the factory but was later pulled. They are Uber unicorn rare until they get actually released which might be never. As for prices they do tend to sell out and go up really fast. Really nice controller and feel, sticks feel great, the LB and RB could have been implemented better in the shoulder buttons making them bigger or just implemented as part of the case, but you can just use the Black and white buttons, still this is a nick pick and you will get used to it. It's a beautiful controller and collectors piece that screams to any Halo fan. Though the video that plays uses a mix of original and CE anniversary footage. I have the Black OG, Red, Green, White and Black 20th and this beauty that is the Cortana controller. I hope they do a guilty spark controller as it is perfect, in the middle the moving eye and the shell for Guilty Sparks chassis. Forza controller where the logo could be a speedometer. Hyperkin are sitting on endless ideas and potential. Now... It's does have slight gaps on the screen where you see a black backdrop, then a clear gap above and below the screen,.thought they would have added some foam or card to block it in. The screen behind it isn't circular it's just a normal rectangular screen and does show through the Cortana, red and green. It's easy to strip. 7 screws on the back, detach the USB ribbon, detach the vibration motors and screen ribbon, move the shoulder boards and unscrew the 4 screes and the boards comes out. It's rather easy to strip and clean, I will say the vibration motors can easily be pulled off the board so be careful and don't hulk it off. You can change the thumbsticks to whatever ones you desire as you would just need to mod whatever ones you wanted to put on to match the thumbstick pins or fill in with plastic and dremel. The USB-C cable is rather sturdy and honestly, I'm not going to be throwing it around. A young kid or rambunctious teen would be leading this to a future fix or strip down later on, it's good but it isn't indestructible. I'm mainly rating a five stars due to my biased opinion, but the average user would easily damage the wire connector so four stars for that.
Review: Massive! - Nice replica!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Massive!
*by G***S on 8 September 2024*

Nice replica!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Left trigger needed a patch
*by L***L on 7 November 2023*

Had it 4 days and the left trigger is already worn down. Gently resting your finger on it is enough to set it off now. Not what i expect at this price but there is a firmware update hyperkin offer upon issue. Other than that, great shape, works just as well as the original (except the left trigger) and i quite like the small bumpers. Im always accidentally hitting the bumpers on other controllers so this is perfect
