Review: Short and flexible - Shorter than regular 771 antennas and more flexible as well. Great quality and works better than the shipped antennas on Baofengs, Tidradios, Radtel, and similar radios. It installs directly to the radio. Excellent product for the cost. I recommend this antenna.
Review: Best antenna I've put on my Baofeng! Maybe not... - See Edit below original review. Wow, just wow. I upgraded from the Baofeng UV-5R stock rubber ducky and holy cow is there a huge difference. I receive signals from radios that are quite far away, and they sound crystal clear. I don't have my HAM radio license yet so I haven't gotten a chance to test whether it broadcasts as good as it receives, but this little antenna is a definite must for anyone looking to make their Baofeng work better over greater distances. The price is right and it came in a genuine looking bag. Get one today and thank me later. Analog isn't dead just yet, get your license and join me. Let's start a new ANALOG revolution! Baofeng and Nagoya for the win! Edit: Now that I have had to replace this antenna twice and I have my ticket and actually got to use it, I have to say that I am unimpressed with it. The heat shrink cover came off my first one within a week of moderate use. The heat shrink and the tip came off the second one in less time than the first one and then the coil fell out of the base. What the heck? So I finally took the test and passed and now have my Amateur radio operators license and I got a chance to make a contact with it, after a quick radio check I got back reports that the signal was weak and full of static. Put back on the stock antenna and boom signal still weak but no static. What the heck Nagoya? Y'all are slippin. I have tested this in multiple locations all around Jacksonville, Florida all with the same results. Pathetic. Moving up to a more powerful radio with a real antenna is my only option.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Amazon says it has a max power of 10w but Baofeng has it at 5w. which is correct?**
A: Baofeng radios (many of them) max out at 5 watts or just over. But there are other Baofeng radios that can transmit at 10 watts, and still other radios like the Radtel RT-470 that can transmit at 13-14 watts on VHF and 11 watts on UHF. The Nagoya antennas max out at 10 watts, so if you need anything more powerful, get an Abbree tactical antenna. They handle up to 20 watts and tend to work better.

**Q: is their a better antenna than this one?**
A: YES...the Abbree tri-band is half the price and tests out far better than Nagoya's 320A in all areas! It's18.89-inches high and covers the same bands as the Nagoya. It I had a 320A, I'd put it in a drawer and not use it. Oh, the Nagoya also has a power limitation of 10 watts, while the Abbree has a power rating of 20 watts! (Check out the Smokin’ Ape’s review of the two antennas on YouTube.) My radio has a power output of 13-14 watts on VHF and 11 watts on UHF. I really wanted to love the Nagoya. It just couldn't happen!

**Q: This says only 5W max power. Has anyone used it with the BF-F8HP on 8W? I may have bought the wrong one...**
A: These antennas are fine for 10W radios, 8W radios and 10W radios. And you're not gonna see a whole lot of range difference unless you use decent antennas and you use the higher wattage in the woods or other environs; then the wattage can aid in penetrating such clutter. Woods or forests is one type of clutter; buildings are a step up in radio blockage, and the one thing radios cannot penetrate, period, are mountains. That's where repeaters come in handy.

One radio that's got a built in repeater in it for less than a hundred bucks is the TYT8000D or 8000E. You can attach this radio to a car antenna, put it a car trunk, then dial in other radios so they can transmit to the TYT. The TYT can then take the other radio tranmissions and re-transmit them over further distances. Some people buy these 10W TYTs just for that purpose alone. They do all the heavy lifting so you can have lower power radios transmitting to the TYT, which in turn transmits further and with greater efficiency using it's 10 watts and better antenna.

But don't worry about using this antenna up 10W. It works just fine. The 20W Retevis antenna will handle 1W-20W but it's thicker and heavier. I use both the Nagoya 24j and Retevis 20W for my Baofeng BF-H6/H7 10W radios as some frequencies actually hit 12W. But not on frequenies I can use. The 24j and Signal Stick both score high points in reviews, but I've never tried the latter.

**Q: Is the retractable version good or bad? There's a lot of mixed reviews**
A: I am returning my retractable. The stock rubber duck performs much better for both transmit and receive.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST ANTENNA FOR GMRS/FRS UHF HT BAOFENG!!!
*by J***S on December 19, 2023*

I was able to communicate with a buddy at a distance of 5.3 Miles / 8.5 Kilometers (as the bird flies) using the Nagoya NA-701 antenna! I have tested several other antennas sold on Amazon (designed for GMRS frequencies) and this one is hands down the best antenna I have tested, to date. (some research will tell you Nagoya is one of the best) Antenna tested: Nagoya NA-701 Radios tested: Baofeng UV5-R Baofeng UV-5R5 Baofeng UV-82HP Frequency tested: 462.5625 to 467.7250 (GMRS, Non-Repeater channels, for this test) Notes: This antenna is only ~2" longer than most stock Baofeng antennas, with more flex, and vastly improved transmit/receive ability. High-Power mode was needed for this test, on both ends. Communication was not clear enough to comprehend, on Low-Power mode, at a distance of 5 Miles. Communication was performed outside, with no obstructions other than trees/houses. Yes, I do have a valid GMRS License. (and so should you, to broadcast on GMRS! No test required, and its valid for 10 years) Conclusion: Highly recommend this antenna to anyone wanting to upgrade from their stock HT antenna for VHF/UHF communication.
