Also, both the wire and paperboard framing for the Aerostar filters are more substantial than the 3M filters. Lastly, the Aerostar filter media just appears to be denser than that of the 3M filter, as it lets less light through. If the filter was jiggled a little, it would fall though. In other words, it wasn't tight like a 3M filter. - When installing the Aerostar 12x12x1 filter, it did not stay snug to the vent frame. I had to slide it in and close the grate to keep it in place. Despite this, I haven't heard any filter movement when the fan turns on or off. - When installing the Aerostar 14x30x1 filter, it was similarly snug to a 3M filter. If a problem develops with any of the filters, I think I'll just use double sided tape to secure them as necessary. I tend to get the MERV11 in a 4" thick pleated filter because it traps everything I'm most worried about like dust, mites, pet dander, bacterias, allergic pollen and when my daughter cooks or burns something in the oven, kitchen smoke! Keeping all that "sheet" out of the distribution process of hot/cold air being deposited throughout the many registers in my house not only protects my family, but it helps to prolong the system and house by keeping it all clean and dust free!! Don't skimp when it comes to selecting that MERV rated filter or you may end up replacing more than just the filter. Read the specs on the system you own to be sure you're using the correct size filter and change it every six months or less depending on your environment. **Q: does this product contain any fiberglass and can it be used in mask filtration?** A: The N95 masks are the equivalent to a MERV 16. Our MERV 13 filters are made with a 100% synthetic filter media with a wire backing glued in a cardboard frame. There are no harmful materials in the MERV 13 media itself. If you use the media it will not filter as small of a partical as the N95 but it help filter out 1.0–0.3 μm particle size. These filters can filter bacteria, droplet nuclei (sneeze), cooking oil, most smoke and insecticide dust, most face powder, and most paint pigments. **Q: Filtrete has 40 pleats per foot. The more pleats, the more filter is being used in the product and the more surface is available for removing crap?** A: Yep **Q: How many pleats per foot?** A: The more pleats the larger the surface area of the filter media=less airflow restriction. I just received they look more like a "basic" inexpensive filter. For comparison: These Areostar MERV 13 - 1 inch per pleat Filtrete MERV 12- .25 inch per pleat Filtrete MERV 11- .75 in per pleat These are a lot less expensive, but they look like an inexpensive filter. The MERV rating is rubber stamped on it.
