## Overview

KILZ Adhesion Primer is a high-performance, water-based bonding primer designed to adhere to challenging surfaces such as glass, vinyl, metal, and glossy finishes. Covering up to 400 sq ft per gallon, it dries quickly (touch dry in 30 minutes) and supports both interior and exterior applications. Trusted by professionals for nearly 50 years, it eliminates the need for extensive sanding, speeds up prep time, and ensures a flawless topcoat finish with superior adhesion and durability.

## Description

A good bonding primer is essential to ensure that topcoats adhere to tough-to-paint surfaces. High adhesion primer increases painting possibilities by bonding to a wide range of surfaces. KILZ Adhesion is a unique latex primer developed to bond securely on slick surfaces where a traditional water or oil-base primer will not adhere. Bonds to tough-to-paint surfaces including Kynar, PVC, Formica, vinyl, glass, tile, glazed brick, chalky paints, glossy finishes, fiberglass and metals. Topcoat with either latex or oil-based paint. Use on most interior and exterior surfaces where a secure bond is critical. This problem solving primer can be used under epoxies, lacquers, and products containing Xylene or other solvents. This is a 1-gallon can of KILZ Adhesion High-Bonding Interior/Exterior water-based Primer in white. Covers approximately 300 square feet per gallon. Use on properly prepared surfaces free of dust, grease, chalk, rust and peeling paint. Mix well before using. Apply with brush, roller, or spray. KILZ Adhesion dries to touch within 30 minutes and ready to recoat in an hour. KILZ has been making premium primers and paints for 40 years. KILZ was named Paint Brand of the Year in 2015 in the Harris Poll EquiTrend Rankings.

Review: This stuff is the bomb.... - This stuff does exactly what it says....a super adherent bonding primer. So much so that you have to be really careful and clean up splatters and drips. Once it dried hard, you will never get it off. But wow, what magic for all the 6 panel doors that I used it on. They were varnished and I wanted them to be painted white and I was trying to avoid having to sand everything completely off. I washed them really well and did a light sand and them used the Kilz adhesion. One coat and then a Ben Moore trim paint. Still beautiful 3 years later and no chipping. So I bought more to refinish some furniture that I don't want to have to sand. Great product! Be aware that you should really use a respirator or paint outside if you can.
Review: Time saver for all your painting projects (say goodbye to sanding)! - I ordered this item twice. The first time I brought it upstairs to my room (I was painting my bathroom cabinets) and I set the unopened box on the floor. My dog knocked it over while playing catch and the ENTIRE BUCKET SPILLED all over my CARPET. Luckily I was planning on installing hardwood floors soon so I was more upset about not being able to start my project that day because there was nothing left! desertcart replaced my paint in 3 days. (See first pic). *Tip: even though the lid has those metal clips to hold it shut, it can still open! Be very careful when you handle the paint for the first time! I’ve refinished cabinets before and I HATE painting (mostly because I hate the time and effort it takes to prep the surface). Sanding to remove any finish/wiping down, making sure there’s no dust particles left on the surface, etc. So I was researching how I could refinish my cabinets without spending too much time while also making sure the finish is durable and doesn’t chip. I read all the reviews on this product and decided to give it a go. I still cleaned my surface with a degreaser, but I didn’t do any sanding. The layers go on very very thin. You prob only need about 2 thin coats and that’s it. This isn’t the type of primer that will help with paint coverage, it’s supposed to help with adhesion. After I let it dry (I let mine sit overnight), I did a few scratch tests and decided to move on with the paint (see pics). *Tip: make sure you really shake/mix the primer really really well. I did notice that when I used it for another project and didn’t shake it well, the adhesion wasn’t as strong and it would scratch off. I was really happy with my cabinets and a year later I haven’t had any chipping! For another project, I was helping my sister refinish her bathroom tile (she had a LOT of blue tile and ugly countertop to refinish). I read someone’s review saying they used it on tile so I decided to give it a go. I did try and scuff up the porcelain tile just a bit, then cleaned and dried the surface and put my first coat of primer really thin. It seemed pretty stuck on there with light scratching (I didn’t use a nail or anything). So then I continued my project with the tub & tile refinishing kit. (As seen in the pictures). It’s been two months and again, so far so good! I’ve been careful not to use any abrasive products on the tile or countertops and the epoxy did have more than 72 hours to cure (and I had a heater running during drying times because this was in the winter. I’m excited to try this stuff again on a crib using a sprayer. I do not look forward to having to sand down each and every slat, so I’m crossing my fingers that this also works well for that! If you’ve got a painting project ahead...save TIME and just try it out! You can thank me later ☺️

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am looking to paint over semi gloss paint on a stairwell without having to degloss or sand the entire area. Is this the correct product to use?**
A: Hello, Yes KILZ Adhesion is a good choice for this project. Make sure to allow the primer to dry for 24 hours to ensure it achieves the best adhesion before top coating. Good luck with your project!

**Q: Has anyone used this primer over ugly granite then painted the vanity? Also what type of paint and sealer did you use over it**
A: Hello!

KILZ Adhesion will stick to granite but it is not FDA approved for surfaces that will have contact with food. If this is for a bathroom, this primer is perfect and can be top coated with KILZ TRIBUTE (available on Amazon) or another high-quality interior paint.

**Q: Does this adhere and work well for laminate kitchen cabinets?**
A: I tested this product on laminate that was cleaned and very lightly sanded (320 grit) and on a piece that was cleaned only. As a long as the surface is clean I don’t think the sanding was necessary.

**Q: Can i use kilz adhesion as a primer over sheetrock when i am going to tile over? vs sanding the paint and tiling?**
A: Depends on where you are doing the tile. If the paint is in good condition just clean it. If it's gloss sand the sheen off then clean it. If it is bare sheetrock then yes it will seal the sheetrock and help prevent moisture penetrating. If it's near a tub or shower then it's better to install cement board.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST PRIMER EVER!
*by J***A on December 28, 2020*

Ok! I used to redo furniture as a hobby. Had more kids and had to move on. But I had found this amazing bonding primer that allowed me to paint on anything slick or smooth and it would stick better than glue! Now we renovated a house and I knew I had to use it for the kitchen cabinets! Best decision! We went from oak to white and have barely had any knicks and zero peeling. This stuff is amazing!! I also used it on a previous house bathroom vanities. The sides had some type of film on it where paint was literally acting like oil and water mixed. Wouldn’t smooth out or cover it at all! It was so strange. Well- this stuff fixed that problem so easy! It’s amazing! Just buy it!
