I'm not averse to hand-washing things and I don't want to find out if my dishwasher will ruin these, so I'm dedicated to hand washing them. I bought these knives already knowing that. I have very hard water, I don't trust a new and exciting knife technology to the dishwasher. Maybe you have money to throw around and don't mind the risk of throwing them (please don't throw them) in the dishwasher.My only gripe is about the one thing I didn't buy this set for. The vegetable peeler. I tried to use it for the novelty, but I am just not any good with the "Y" peelers. I like the ones with the full handle that you use perpendicularly (I'm saying that's a word) to peel things. I won't be using this peeler again. I actually threw that in the dishwasher because I either will donate it to a friend (telling her not to throw it in the dishwasher), or just throwing it out if she doesn't want it.The other knives though, are amazing. They are amazingly light, and I've had to adjust my techniques to suit. I love the weightiness to a good metal knife, but I love how these ceramic knives perform. I don't think it's going to be hard to adjust to the fact that something so light is as effective at cutting as these knives are. I'm going to use them and only them (except for my cleaver, I don't think a ceramic cleaver would work well because I chop through bone sometimes) for my needs. They have their own sheaths as well. They are a great price. They are very good for cutting lettuce without it turning brown. You can pre-make thing's like that and save a lot of time. Friends of hers had never seen a ceramic knife before. Friends at dinner parties began to help her cook and do prep work. My folks entertain a lot. When you have fifteen guest's or more two plus times a week having a lot of knives helps. They seem to be durable, she's had them for over a year now. I was surprised that they hold an edge pretty well. They are easy to wash. She likes these a lot.
