When I got my first cat six years ago I happened to purchase the Litter Locker II as my disposal system; probably due to positive reviews on desertcart, but maybe just by luck?? That pail lasted me maybe 3 years until I got to the point where I thought it was just really gross (mishaps happen and used litter and feces got inside the container, not to mention the scoop holder!). There was nothing wrong with it, but this moron, thinking all litter disposal systems were created equal, decided against washing and purchased a new one from another brand. I quickly realized how wrong I was. That system, while looking sleek and fancy, was terrible. It was such a hassle to pull out the "blocker" mechanism. I had to shimmy it out every time. Also, because I have two litter boxes at opposite ends of my apartment, I have to pick up the disposal system and carry it to the secondary litter box. This was no problem with the Litter Locker II, but with this "other" disposal system, there was only a little button holding the top to the bottom, and it frequently separated, even with careful carrying from the bottom, resulting in more than one gross mess on my carpeted floor. The Litter Locker II has a tabbed system of locking the top to the bottom, and although I had to carry from the bottom due to the weight when full, it never came apart without me intending to pull it apart to empty it. I quickly decided that system wasn't working for me and tried to find the Litter Locker II, but by this time, it was extremely hard to find a Litter Locker II. I tried chain pet stores, the "mega" discount retail stores (Walmart, Kohl's, Target), and the Litter Locker Website. None of these stores had any available. desertcart was the only place that did have them, but they were available through 3rd party sellers for obscene prices. So I tried another brand of litter disposal system and unfortunately came up against similar negative features like the flimsy locking system so after a while of just "dealing" with it, I tried to find the Litter Locker II again. I finally found one for about 3 times the price I paid for the first one (including shipping) so I purchased it. That one lasted about two years before the springs for the blocking mechanism broke and made the system hard to use - without the blocker, the scent isn't as "locked in" as one would like, and plus, the blocker didn't snap back into place and it stuck out, which was a problem for where it was stored. Fortunately, this time when I looked for another Litter Locker II, I found this one, for a reasonable price, even with shipping from the UK. It took a while to arrive, and I'm not going to lie, the packaging scared me a bit when it arrived (the flimsiest cardboard wrapped in a half inch of plastic wrap looking like a giant moth in a cocoon) but the Litter Locker II inside was just fine. I am contemplating getting a spare one right now while they are available and the pricing is reasonable in case that isn't the case when I need a new one. Some people complain about the pricing on the bag refills. They do run about $5/per, but each one lasts about 5 weeks for me in a two cat home, and I don't think it's that bad, not for the convenience anyway. I'd definitely recommend the Litter Locker II to anyone with cats; I just wish they were more easily available here in the US.
