Of the two, this one was a bit more money, but totally worth it. The quality was just so much more superior than the other. Installation is a little time consuming when installing 12 of these, but each one was about 5-7 minutes to install. Automatic part works well. I have 5 of these under my deck, so to get to them to change them would be a pain. Automatic are the way to go. Review: Great replacements for an older foundation! - These are amazing! I replaced what looked like the original vents that were put in 60 years ago. None of them had the same size opening in the foundation but we were able to replace them all with a little creativity. Installation would have been easy peasy if not for the foundation inconsistencies. It turned off cold this week and they all closed automatically, so now I won't have to go out with the hammer next spring and beat them open. Salt air conditions?** A: I am using them near the shore in New Jersey. However, we only installed them last fall. Not long enough to know if they will holdup. At this price I would give it a try. **Q: Does this vent take power?** A: No, not powered vents. There is a thermostatic spring that opens vents above a certain temp and closes them below a certain temp. We have had these for several years and i think 1 out of the 12 is a little slow to open/close. Fairly nice quality, heavy plastic... however, we have a problem with 1 vent staying in when it is windy. It is difficult to get them set well with the un-eveness of a brick foundation. **Q: Will this open/close correctly if installed in a ceiling? (i.e. Media Closet vent to attic)** A: I would think so.
