The length is good for short cuts (as they are only 8" long), substantial but not heavy. If you are cutting long seams, I would recommend getting the 10" or 12" shears to save time and hand labor. What's even better is these shears are almost half the price of the Gingher brand (of which I have a pair) and sharpening is much easier.
