Review: Warm, Balanced Tone and Reliable Quality - Ernie Ball Earthwood acoustic strings are a solid choice if you want a warm, balanced tone without sacrificing clarity. Right out of the package, they sound bright but not harsh, and they settle into a really nice, full sound after a short break-in period. The medium light gauge (12–54) feels comfortable under the fingers while still offering good volume and projection. They’re easy to install and hold tuning well, even after several playing sessions. I mainly use them for casual playing and longer practice sessions, and they stay consistent without going dead too quickly. They also feel smooth enough for strumming and fingerpicking without feeling stiff. Overall, these are dependable, great-sounding strings at a reasonable price. A good option for players who want quality acoustic tone without overthinking it.
Review: Earthwood Phosphor‑Bronze Strings – A Versatile Brand I Trust on Both Guitar & Bass - I’ve been a long‑time fan of Earthwood strings, and the 3‑pack Light Phosphor‑Bronze (11‑52) does everything it promises on my acoustic guitar—bright, articulate tone, easy‑play feel, and solid staying power. What’s even better is that I use the same Earthwood brand for my bass (just a different gauge suited to low‑E tension), and the consistency is a huge win. The bass sets stay warm, punchy, and stay in tune through long gigs, while the guitar set delivers that classic, sweet sparkle I love for finger‑picking and strumming alike. Why I stick with Earthwood: Uniform quality across both instruments, so I never have to hunt for a new brand when I switch between guitar and bass. Reliable durability—the strings last longer than most budget sets, reducing frequent changes. Great tone‑to‑price ratio—you get a professional‑grade sound without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for strings that perform reliably on a guitar and trust the same brand for bass, Earthwood’s Light Phosphor‑Bronze line is a solid, versatile choice.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What would be the downside of putting these strings on an old classical guitar I bought for $25. Would it cause the neck to bow?**
A: Your guitar will be damaged on a classical with steel strings. Classical guitars necks are not built for steel they are built for nylon strings. Your neck will bow and warp

**Q: Are the first 3 strings nylon?**
A: No, they are plain steel as in other acoustic sets. Nylon would only be found on classical sets.

**Q: What would be the best string size to use on a used acoustic guitar to be played by a 9 year old boy?**
A: The lighter the guage...the easier to bend.
The easier to bend...the harder to control.
Since its an acoustic guitar, i would start with 10's ...try .10 to .46. Thats a pretty standard guage.
He should be able to tell if he would like a smaller guage in which case go to 9's.
Better yet....take him to a guitar shop and let him try some different guage strings.
If hes just strumming, he may like the 10's. When hes ready for more sophisticated play, and until his hands get larger and stronger, he may need the 9's. Happy playing!

**Q: Can I put nylon strings on a guitar that use to have metal?**
A: You can. You will need to do a neck adjustment to makeup for the lower tension. These strings are metal that the question was asked under.

Ernie Ball strings are consistent quality and great sounding, good lifetime, and reasonably affordable. I have their “Regular Slinkies” on an electric guitar that are superb.
