My observations thus far are... #1. The device doing the recording has as much, or more, to do with the quality of the sound as the mic. #2. This thing like any other TS mono mic, is painful to adapt to a smart phone for recording. Possible, but painful. Recordings taken using a home brewed 1/4 TS to 3.5mm TRRS adapter were okay. But it is obvious mic gain was set way too high. No gain knob on the phone you know! #3. Plugged into a 1/4" input on my mixer, and gain adjusted properly, this thing is crystal clear, with good tonal reproduction of my somewhat baritone voice. Tested reception up to 50' away through 3 walls and still crystal clear strong audio. The housing and the tiny gauge wire antenna seem particularly cheaply made, but are holding up so far. Don't be a Gorilla with it and I think you are fine. At least that's what I have found so far... Time will tell if it will hold up, but so far it is doing a good job, and at the price tag, it was worth the gamble... *** UPDATE AFTER 3 YEARS OF USE *** I have stopped using this for my Smart Phone videos, and instead am using an SJCam SJ6 Legend camera. I use a USB to 3.5mm camera mic adapter, and a Livewire 3.5mm Male to 1/4" Female adapter to make the connections needed. The receiver is simply velcroed to a tripod leg to keep the weight off the camera's USB port. Audio quality is good, not fantastic, but good. FAR superior to any other Mic rig that I have tested for either Smart Phone, or Action Cam, and that includes a Rode SmartLav for comparison. Mind you, you are NOT going to, or at least shouldn't be using a Lavalier mic for singing. These are designed and built for speech. I am using mine for vlogging, and have taken the OE foam wind protector off, and replaced it with a Foamito dead kitten style wind filter. High winds that would make a normal lav / camera audio unusable, isn't even noticeable. My main drawback with this rig is it is inconvenient to set up and use. So I don't use it as much as I should. I would personally LOVE a rig with the following. #1. Already has the dead kitten cover. Let's face it, a huge application for this stuff is outdoors, so just include the thing. #2. Smaller transmitter, perhaps integrated to the mic itself so that you don't have to futz with the wire... #3. Next to nobody is going to use this straight to a mixer, Fit the receiver with a cable, a clip to hold it to a tripod, and a 3.5mm primary fitting, and toss in a 3.5mm F to 1/4" M adapter for those that will go to a board...
