(Serious question, looking for different viewpoints)** A: For me it was space and ease of use. If I was going to be doing a lot of shirts or projects I would buy a press but this is just for a project here and there for me. My first project with this came out perfect and it was easy - just a Tshirt but it has held up well. I didn't have good luck with my iron. I just could not get the heat right on my iron. Sometimes easy is just what you need. This is also so much smaller. **Q: What are the pros and cons of this machine vs a more industrial machine for a small home business?** A: Pros: It's portable, stores away easy, heats up in one minute. Great for small items, but better outcome than an iron. Cons: you have to use your muscle for pressure, even though it's heavy, so you won't get consistent pressure. Not big enough to press an adult tshirt design in one press, will have to move it around. You have to set your heat temperature and timer manually every time you turn it on. Its a great press, if only needed occasionally. If your pressing several items a day, you'll want a stationary press. I have both. **Q: Do I need to use a silicone pad with the easy press?** A: You'll want to have something under the press when you use it to make sure you don't damage your pressing surface. A silicone pad works great, but so does an ironing board or anything you can get hot without damaging. It works amazing and super easy! It is nice how small it is (9"×9"), even if I want to do a bigger project I just iron it in pieces and everything turns out nice!! I have had a lot of fun making some very nice shirts. You can use the cricut brand iron on vinyl or any other heat transfer vinyl (htv). This heat press preheats within a minute and the heat is adjustable to any setting. Also, there is a built it timer that can be easily adjusted. I recommend going onto the cricut.com website to print the heating guid for various materials or htv used. I have a full size press for my business (I screen/vinyl apparel and other items) but it is not convenient for shows, the Cricur Easy Press, however has held up in quality and use for everything I've used it for. The platen area is only 9x9 but easily moved around to accommodate larger projects; heats up way faster than my press and has alarms for when temp is reached/ time is done. Auto shut off when inactive for 10 minutes, which I love because often I am running between projects/orders. Comes with chart for time /temp for specific materials, also incredibly handy. Thumbs up Cricut; my favorite product you have made so far! I’m not an overly strong lady anymore since I lost a lot of muscle mass over the past 6 months of treatment. I really needed something I could put away when I had company over but most of all, light weight.This checked all the boxes. I gave my clamshell away and ordered this. I figured I could always return it.First thing: made and pressed a shirt for my husband. He was my test experiment!He was to wear the shirt the next day to work - he is a research engineer and can wear graphic tees in the lab. I figured, if it can hold up to him at work we should be good. He came home, threw it in the wash on hot with the rest of his work clothes! THEN put it in the dryer.Guess what? It still stayed and came back out looking just as it did before. Now let me tell you, I had an $800 top of the line, name brand, clamshell press. It was a year old when I purchased it from a company going out of business. I had many instances where the vinyl would pull even after one cold wash.
