I have a very small living room and especially in the fall/winter hours, it's dark. I don't like the light from an overhead fan-light and wanted something of a non-distracting appearance with a small footprint that could go behind my sofa (which is close to, parallel with the wall) and happily, I 'found' this lamp. This lamp provides excellent localized light -- and with its remote control can give so many lighting options from a dim nightlight to fully bright100% white light excellent for task work and reading. The remote has a dimmer, and "color variator" so brightness and whiteness can be toned down -- cool! The lamp has a very adjustable gooseneck but the pole part is fixed & will not make a shorter lamp.
