It contains 2 x batteries. The camera operates using the power of one battery first before switching to the other. Battery levels are indicated in the Ring app which monitors the battery level and, usefully, sends an email when its time to recharge. Each battery may be removed and recharged independently. The solar option comprises a panel and cable that connects to the camera to trickle charge the battery. I don't have the solar panel and therefore am unable to advise how efficient the charging is, especially in the winter months with shorter daylight hours and when the camera lights are likely to be activated more frequently. Its worth remembering that the recommended fixing hight of the camera is approx 9ft (2.7m). So, if fitted at the recommended hight you will need to use a step ladder to access the battery change. I have several Ring cameras (mains and battery) plus a doorbell camera. They all use the same battery so I bought a spare. This enables me to have a fully charged battery ready to swap out. Smart looking too. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Camera - Some Issues with Motion Detection *by B***V on 12 May 2026* I originally ordered the camera without the solar panel but the camera just didn’t work properly and it didn’t pick up every motion I ordered another one with the solar panel, but not yet installed the solar panel, and this camera seems to pick up everything… every movement I make, before installing it properly outside, it picks it up every time… very impressive I have given 4 stars because it seems to depend on the unit that is supplied…some work well but others don’t seem to work that well with motion detection This particular unit seems to work extremely well and I’m getting notifications every time I move I will update this review once it’s been installed properly The AI notification descriptions are quite spooky!
