Previously bought Dr Bronner's and this is so much cheaper. It is not only cheaper but gloopier, in a good way! I take a couple of tablespoons put in a few grinds of sea salt and mix it until it becomes a 'glob'. I then mix it to the required thickness with coconut milk and oil, you can use cooled boiled water, rose water or oil on it's own I suppose to enable you to keep it longer (never done this). I then add essential oils. It is silky smooth and thick, like commercial soap. Make it fresh and don't keep it too long if you use water or coconut milk, probably about 3 weeks or so (you can use it in the shower or as hand soap so it never lasts that long in my house anyway!) I put 1 part to 4 parts boiled water in a spray bottle with a few drops of teatree and lavender oil to clean everything. As it is oil based it shines up work surfaces and floors, but remember to buff it dry or it will be greasy. Clean your bath, sink and loo with a spray of this, a shake of bicarb, a rub with a damp cloth (and a loo brush and tooth brush for the loo). Rinse, spray with a mist of hydrogen peroxide to sanitise, dry off and hey presto, best cleaner ever with no nasty chemicals! One little thing is you have to add a few more drops of essential oil to cover the smell, it isn't horrible, its just olive oily. Just used as a handwash for a family of 5 I estimate 1kg will last at least 6 months. The first month is more expensive as you are buying the bottles and essential oil (you do not need the essential oil but it is nicer to have a sweet natural scent after washing your hands - the castile soap doesn't really have a smell so not like you are trying to mask anything, you are just adding your preferred smell - the essential oil will last a really long time!! You just need about 10 little drops per bottle). I HALF FILL the dispenser bottle with castile soap then fill to the top with water and then add the essential oil and shake. Yes - the handwash is much more watery than the thick horrible stuff you might be used to with chemical handwash soaps but when you rub your hands together - it gives a good coating of soap and when you rinse it off you feel completely clean and cleansed without any residue. Or is there one on the bottle?** A: I have my doubts. "Organic" isn't an ambition or an intentention, it's a legal certification and is regulated and monitored by one of a number of bodies (the best known of which is the Soil Association). Using "organic" without being certified by one of these is illegal and would be in breach of a number of laws (USDA in the US). Long story short, if its not certified then it is not organic. Therefore don't buy this because you think it is organic, buy it because you like it, but don't think what you're getting is up there with the more expensive certified products. Organic is an expensive process to be part of (it's a tough standard and is the reason there are so few organic brands in the supermarkets), its difficult and expensive to achieve and maintain which is why these kind of products need to be WITHDRAWN. They're using something they've not paid towards or been able to demonstrate (through audit) that their ingredients actually are organic. **Q: This product is sold as 1KG could you advise approx how many litres is it?** A: This is aprox. 1 litre :-) **Q: How cant I use table salt to thicken it?** A: Hello, I am assuming that you mean "How CAN I use table salt to thicken it?". I have used table salt to effectively thicken castile liquid soap as follows - use a small bottle (e.g. 500ml, for example I re-use a bottle that held spring water) add the quantity of liquid soap that you want to use at this time, so for a shampoo base you can say 50ml. In a small tumbler, mix 2 teaspoons of table salt into warm water - I use water that has been boiled, allowing it to cool down of course! 200ml of water will be fine. Stir until as much as possible of the table salt has dissolved, then trickle a little of the salt water into the bottle where you have your liquid soap. Put the top on, and shake vigorously. I suggest you try adding a little at a time of the salt water mix, as depending on the liquid soap, some thicken more quickly than others. Around 2 teaspoons should thicken 50ml of liquid soap to a dense, creamy consistency. You can then add other ingredients (e.g. essential oils, argan oil, etc.,) as you wish. I find that making up a fresh batch is better than mixing a larger amount, as it's possibly going to separate - however, shaking the bottle again will re-combine your ingredients as you need to use it. Hope that this helps, just remember, as I say, to add the salt water slowly in small amounts and shake well. :-) **Q: What's the best dilution for a facial wash?** A: Not sure why others insist on diluting it as it is natural and very mild soap which you can use as it is. If you find it too heavy for the face ( i've yet to experience this and I have sensitive skin and so do my children). You could dilute it as far as 50/50 and, if using water, you'd really have to think about using a preservative. Be also mindful of any scent or essential oils you use as they may irritate your skin (lots of people hate the natural smell). Ideal for use in home made toiletries and baby wipes etc. The consistency is great, not too watery. Feels luxurious and creamy on wet skin. Cleans effectively. I used it after sport as a shower gel and it got rid of all sweat odours. Leaves skin feeling clean, doesn't seem to dry out skin like fragranced products do. A little goes a long way.
