Given the wide range of people I train with pads come in handy at all stages of the workout program and certainly help when it comes to cushioning certain delicate areas of the body. I have had quite a few barbell pads over time many great and many not so. The biggest problems with some pads is that some aren't secure enough when fitted to a bar as they have no securing feature such as a flap of material that is held in place to stop it from falling off when performing the exercise. Another couple of issues that I have come across with some pads is that they either don't fit properly on to Olympic bars or if they do some will rotate due to having a too large a hole in the middle. I refer my pads to be fixed in place thereby giving an overall secure feeling which in effect other than the padded feeling you wouldn't really think that a pad was in place. Thankfully the pad from Beast Gear meets my minimum requirements in terms of fitment fine. The construction of the pad seems to be good with no apparent weaknesses especially the areas where the material is stitched at the ends and along the velcro fastening. Unlike similar designed pads there are not raised logos or badges to cause and uneven uncomfortable feeling when in use which through certain clothing is most noticeable. The material itself is of a good weave where unlike the vinyl coated types doesn't cause any slipping when positioned on the back, anyone who has tried the vinyl coated pads will know what I am relating to. The loop at the end of the pad helps wrap the securing flap tight which again if anyone has tried to do without such a feature will know how much of a fight it is given the small amount of fabric that can be gripped. Initially taking the pad out of the packaging the foam does has a slight odour which is common with many foam products that are sealed in their wrappers post production but give it time to air and it will be dissipate. In terms of comfort and effectiveness the pad works well in not only adding a little cushioning which comes in handy on big lifts but also doesn't feel over sized when performing some exercises such as barbell hip thrusts. For the money its a well made product that serves well.
