## Questions & Answers

**Q: I usually use modelling clay (to sculpt animals or pets). But just came across this.... could / would this suit as an alternative to clay ?**
A: Hi there,

I don’t think you will get much detail with this. It is quite lumpy. If you use a mould like I did you get quite a few air holes and Pitt’s. Not like slip clay. If you on the other hand want something like fur and movement I think it would be great. It’s a fun medium to experiment with. Drys hard (white) overnight can be painted. I used silver spray paint it went on well.

**Q: How much coverage will one bag of Sculptamold give me?**
A: Sorry I can't give you a definite answer. All I can say is that it goes a long way and it is very very good stuff and easy to work with. Ther are several videos on Youtube which should help you. Some of them even describe how to make your own. I used to use plaster cloth for scenery but it was very messy. Sculptamod is nowhere near as messy. One other thing, when you mix it with water it begins to set quickly so don't hang about! Good luck, Phil

**Q: can finished items be left outdoors?**
A: I have only used this item indoors for model railway scenery. However it sets quite hard and firm so could be ok. That said, it is paper Mache based, so just how it would deal with prolonged exposure to rain I can't say.

**Q: Does this work with Linka?**
A: I would suggest it would be difficult to use with Linka.  Links needs the plaster to be quite runny to fill in the mould details, sculptamould is very thick and fibrous and would not flow as required.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sculptamold moulds

The main use for this product is apparently for making casts of faces and pregnant bellies, but is great for any modelling use. The bag contains a mix of fine fibre and plaster and only needs 1 part of water mixed with two parts sculptamold. Many do not use tools to mould the product, but fingers. However, for railway scenery, I always use artists' tools. The result does harden solidly, but tiny bits might flake off easily, probably as with any plaster product. Does not shrink or crack, and takes paint or scenery like static grass easily. Can be a little temperamental depending on the mix of water, and sculpting would need a slightly dryer mix. Can get small holes appear when dry, and very fine work may be difficult as it may be become a little lumpy - but fine for most purposes.
