Definitely squirrel proof and would be magpie proof but they have taken to flying and bumping into it and collecting the seeds that fall on the garden. Easy to fill and the little birds slip easily through the bars and get to the seeds. Definitely worth the extra cost.

**Q: Is it easy to open to put seeds in?**
A: I have been feeding wild garden birds over many years and have purchased many bird feeders during that time. This is the only squirrel-proof feeder I have experience to which I would award 100 out of 100 for all aspects of a bird feeder. It is the ideal feeder for sunflower hearts, not peanuts. Not only is it easy to refill with sunflower hearts but can be easily and totally dismantled for cleaning without the use of any tools. When topping up twist and remove the top lid, then twist and remove the second lid while holding the feeder over the tin containing the replacement hearts, which should have a diameter as big or bigger than the diameter of the feeder base - a biscuit tin is ideal. Once the second lid has been removed the perspex seed tube can be easily removed, allowing the seed below the feeder outlets to fall into the seed tin, thus preventing an accumulation of seed which cannot be reached by the birds. The plastic feeder outlets can be removed by twisting and the whole assembly can be cleaned if necessary. The finish of the feeder is also excellent preventing rust. Without a shadow of doubt the best bird feeder on the market.

**Q: Are the perches on the actual feeder tube made of plastic or metal please??**
A: Difficult to say but they are solid and we have not had any problems. They could be plastic coated metal

A: The outside bars measure 3.5cm x 5.0 cm. just big enough for Tits and Finches. The inside tube is far enough away from the outside bars to stop the Starlings reaching the seed.

**Q: Can this be fitted to a pole?**
A: No.There is no screw thread or fixing underneath.You will need to hang it from something that hopefully squirrels cannot climb or jump to.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The pigeons aren’t too keen on this feeder.

We’ve been having an ongoing problem with pigeons. They would empty our previous “pigeon proof” feeder in 90 minutes. They would crowd over it and gobble up all the sunflower hearts, not giving the little birds a chance. At one point I was filling the feeder twice a day so I was having to buy seed regularly. Can the pigeons still get at the seed? Yes, a couple can…..but there’s significantly less pigeons and most importantly the little birds can eat. I find the pigeons are even less interested if I half fill it. Pros: Large feeder, good sized feeding tube, looks nice, easy to fill without spilling seed, well made, coated with germ resistant coating, has four perches (and four feeding holes) inside which the birds use, comes apart well for cleaning, the lid keeps the rain out and the lid makes it hard for pigeons to loiter as they can’t get a good grip. Cons: The lid is very tricky. It’s like a bayonet bulb and takes a lot of practice to be able to open and close it. It’s a case of press and turn. I’m using this outside my flat window so it’s important nothing falls so my husband drilled a small hole into the edge of the lid to secure it which doesn’t affect the waterproof aspect. We also secured the inner section just in case. I’d give it five stars if the lid was easier to use. *Edit* If you put your fingernail just under the lip of the lid it comes off easily. I find it easier to remove even without using a fingernail, it just takes practice. Would I recommend this feeder? Yes. My windowsill isn’t full of fighting, greedy pigeons so far. It’s been out there for a week and the majority of pigeons have moved on and most importantly the small birds can eat without being scared off by big flappy wings. *Edit* The pigeons do still stop by, especially if I fill it to the top but are put off if it’s filled only half way.
