I only got this type because I have a deaf cat and didn't want her getting out. **Q: Does the cat have to be chipped? or can it wear a tag on its collar to access the house??** A: To be honest for the sake of £16.50 for a microchip I would always advocate a chip. Also if the cat goes missing ALL vets would scan for a chip on a found cat or come to that a found dog. So a double win for your money. To answer your question yes you can use RFID collar tag. Having already lost one tag at a cost of £9.99 for two I have gone down the microchip route. Totally not on the subject we have a rag doll indoor cat and currently are concerned that it will tail gate one of the outdoor cats and get out so we have made the flap read her as ok to enter the property.
