Catan has a portable, peg based version of the full game that folds away neatly for travel however, so if the tables are too small, go for that instead. Can confirm this works well on trains. **Q: Could you play this on a plane?** A: You just need a flat surface, so absolutely! **Q: Can you play this with a large group of children?** A: I wouldn't advise it, unless they're playing in teams. What I would recommend instead is Catan Junior, which is designed for children up to 10-11 years old. It has a great game board, awesome artwork and a points system that is really easy to wrap your head around. It even has a resources trading mechanic so when they feel ready they can progress to the full adult version of the game. If the group of children is particularly large, then you could have teams of two making decisions together, or they could take turns with winner stays on as a rule? I play it a lot with my 7 year old niece and she's getting really good, especially when it comes to resource management and planning two moves ahead.
