Slightly coarse if you want a fine finish, but sharp and excellent at shaping up ready for the final finishing. They are long enough to give a good working area - again, handy for fast removal of material - without sacrificing precision. The general standard of finish is better than many of the cheap brands, for example the triangle has reasonably sharp corners and no nasty sticky-out tangs. My only niggle is that the oval is not very oval, it is too close to the round - on the other hand there is a nice double-rounded example which fills most of the gap. I use them on plastics, so I cannot comment on whether they would survive the soft metals used for jewellery and suchlike.
