## Description

From the manufacturer

Review: London themed version of best game ever - What a great way to play shorter rounds of the classic Ticket to Ride. We really enjoyed this game, especially the new strategy angle of trying to own districts had us strategize in overdrive. I recommend this highly and we'll take it out of the box and take it with us on holiday this year. Which is easy enough to do, as it's quite compact already; we'll just ditch the box. We also love the London theme. Instead of trains you have red buses and instead of carriages on the cards, it's a mix of different English vehicles, such as Austin Martin a black cab. Perhaps this review should come with a spoiler alert, because unpacking the game was half the fun. Ticket to ride is just the best game ever and because it comes in so many varieties it always feels like a new game. Yes, it's worth every penny, because you'll play it until the board rips apart. Our youngest player is 19 and our oldest 76, and it's never clear who is going to win. We all have different strategies. Enjoy it, no wait, I know you will. Buy it!
Review: A great version of a classic game - Up until recently when I started playing the Legends of the West legacy version of Ticket to Ride, this was my favourite variant of the game. The addition of ships and harbours make it a more challenging and strategic version, but it still retains all of the TTR trademarks of simple gameplay. Pick up cards, claim routes, complete destination tickets: simple and brilliant fun. Rails and Sails just gives players more to think about, more ways to complete routes, more strategy and options. It's fantastic.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which version is better? Original, Europe or this one?**
A: That depends on what you're looking for. Europe is much more streamlined, straightforward where the only "advanced" mechanic is the tunnels and train stations. R&S has a completely different approach on the game. Here you have 2 sets of pieces, ships and trains. 2 sets of cards, for ships and trains. And the goals change a bit, as there's more importance placed now on harbors. You're still connecting routes from city/port to city/port, but there's so much more to take into consideration and it's not as streamlined as the Europe version. Overall, R&S is a more complicated game. That's not to say, that it's a worse game. It's just much different from Europe.

**Q: Why is it so much more expensive here on Amazon than I find it on other websites?**
A: Amazon take a 15% commission in the toys and games category of the total amount paid and therefore any pricing has to take this into account. Beyond that, we cannot comment on the prices that other websites charge.

**Q: which version would be fun for an 8 and 10 year old kids?**
A: It should be this version....link...https://www.amazon.com/Days-Wonder-DOW-7201-Ticket/dp/0975277324/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536511391&sr=8-1&keywords=ticket+to+ride+game

**Q: Would a colorblind person be able to play this?**
A: I am not familiar with how much a colorblind person can see, but the game has 5 colors (black, yellow, red, green, and blue) tokens which each player chooses as their own color. The chosen token color also corresponds to your color of trains and ships to be used on the board. The colors on the board are; pinkish purple, black, white, gray, green, yellow, and reddish orange. These board color spaces correspond with ship and rail cards used in play. Each one of the ship or rail cards have a symbol on them as well as the colors on the board (i.e., green has a leaf in an "x" pattern, the reddish orange has a loosely interpreted "flame" design, white is a cross, black is a square diamond shape, etc.). I must admit that the patterns on the board are a little difficult to see, but in good light one should be able to decipher. There is a rainbow card - a "wild" card that has pictures of both a train and a ship - no need to see the colors for that card. All in all, I believe a colorblind person could play if they can decipher the shapes.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great version of a classic game
*by S***S on 5 January 2026*

Up until recently when I started playing the Legends of the West legacy version of Ticket to Ride, this was my favourite variant of the game. The addition of ships and harbours make it a more challenging and strategic version, but it still retains all of the TTR trademarks of simple gameplay. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ New & Still Great....but necessary?
*by N***S on 11 January 2017*

The Ticket to Ride series has be one of, if not, the best board games out there. A game that can be both simple in play yet complex in strategy. We started playing games with my girlfriends family and of all the ones we've played so far, Ticket to Ride is the most requested. When Days of Wonder announced Rails and Sails, it was immediately added to the 'Must Buy' list, especially with the fact that this was basically, a larger 'Base Game'. On the first play last night, myself and my girlfriend realised something.....It's much more complicated. Not so complicated that we wont be returning to it, but we now doubt whether it will satisfy the family. The addition of boats play the exact same say as trains do. You play the right number of coloured boat cards and place them on the relevant routes. Some of the boat cards are 'Double Boats', meaning you could play 1 Red Double Boat card to claim a two block red boat route. The addition of Harbours adds an interesting new depth to the game. Playing two train card and two boat cards of the same colour (both featuring the anchor symbol) allows the player to place a harbour in a port where they have a route connected to. This allows a huge amount of possible points to be gained at the end and forces to player to plan out their routes and tickets more carefully. Rather than drawing coloured cards from the available 5 (plus the blind deck), you now have the choice of 3 train and 3 boat cards. Once drawn, these can be replaced by either, meaning all 6 available cards could be trains or boats or a mixture of both. This gives a slightly better chance of the card you need being available. The last 'major' addition is the 'Tour' tickets. Some destination tickets involved multiple stops along a route. The one card I had involved starting in one port and making my way through 3 other before reaching the final destination. If the route is completed exactly how it is displayed in the ticket, you gain maximum points although if you still complete the ticket but vary the route slightly, you gain a fraction the total points. Failure to complete still minuses points and boy! Do these seem to hit you harder than before. -36 on mine! We have not had chance to play the 'Great Lakes' map on the reverse of the World Map but from what I have been reading, can take less time to play through. On top of learning the new rules, new mechanics and actually playing the game, it took a total of approx 2 hours. With all these new mechanics, we found the final scores to be much higher than what we've been used to in the normal Ticket to Ride. A score over 100 was the norm. With Rails and Sails, 200 is not out of the ordinary. Especially with the Harbour scoring possible adding 60 points to your total. The reason for me deducting a star from my review is Rails and Sails seems to have taken away some of the 'Elegance' from the standard game. That's not saying that after a few breakthroughs, you wont have mastered the game. It just seems as though the addition of boats etc, was not needed to improve an already excellent game.
