I was highly skeptical about the mechanism behind the magnetic limescale protection. Supposedly, the limescale is not removed but stays suspended in water, so it just does not stick to the pipes. However, I decided to buy this anyway as it fitted the gap left by the filter and was quite cheap. Few months on, the electric shower seems fine and even the shower head does not clog up as much.
