There is foam inside that can be removed leaving you with an empty bunk box. The plastic does have ridges, so it is not completely flat inside the box. Mostly advertised for ice fishing, and I can see why, but it holds 4, 6'-6" medium rods easy with the reels on. Was hoping to not have to break down the handles but that isn't even an issue. The lid closes securely, placing the foam against the rods making sure nothing slips. The other great thing about this box is the foam inserts in the storage part aren't glued in so you can move them around to suit your needs. Only thing missing in my opinion is a rope or wire to keep the lid from flipping all the way over, but I may just add that myself. Not taking any stars away from the review.
