I've tried a few different kitchen miracle sharpeners with poor results, and eventually got myself some decent whetstones which do a nice job. The disadvantages of the whetstones are 1) They take a long time 2) I keep grinding my fingers down before noticing they are sore 3) Its super easy to scratch the blades if you're not paying attention and slip. I though the Tormek was a bit pricey to overcome those minor problems, but I went ahead and got it anyway. I hadn't realised just how easy it would be to use, and how razor sharp it would make my knives... they are ultra-sharp... no lie. It also sharpens scissors, chisels, planes etc. If you're on the fence about getting one, just do it... Get a buffing wheel and polishing compound too if you have shiny knives.
